What’s better than curling up with a favorite book during the holidays? Curling up with your favorite book boy crush!

I asked my staff which book boy they’d like to meet under the mistletoe this year, and here are their picks. After you read theirs, I want to know yours! Tell me in the comments or tweet me @yabookscentral with hashtag #bookboysmistletoe

Will you go for a classic like Mr. Darcy? Or a new guy in town like Four from Divergent

~ Megan’s Crush ~

Mine isn’t a new character, but my YA crush is Etienne St. Clair from Stephanie Perkins’ Anna and the French KissAugust 4, 2011.

Etienne is cute, cultured, witty, and says incredible things like, “For the two of us, home isn’t a place. It’s a person.” What more can you ask?

Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2) by Veronica Rossi, January 8, 2013

My current crush is Peregrine, Perry for short or Perrylicious if you’re me. *winks*

I fell in love with Perry earlier this year when we “met” Under the Never Sky, and I had the chance to hang out with him again when we journeyed Through the Ever Night together. I walked away from that experience shouting, “OhMyPerry, I LOVE YOU SO HARD!” Don’t worry, he knows exactly how I feel thanks to his mad Scrire skillz. *flashes Tides sign*

So, what makes Perry so Perrylicious and why do I want to hang out with him under the mistletoe? Besides being made of all the awesome things, Perry and I actually have quite a lot in common, like…

He’s tall.
I am too! (When I have heels on.)

He has green eyes that allow him to see in the dark.
My eyes are also green and I too can see in the dark. (I have to use a flashlight, but still.)

Perry has wavy blond hair.
So do I! (OK, mine may or may not come out of a bottle. Minor details, people.)

He has these really cool markings all over his upper body that show others who he is and what his abilities are.
I have markings too! (Mine peel off at the end of the day but it still counts because I say it does.)

Perry is always prepared to defend himself and can wield a knife and bow and arrow like nobody’s business.
I’m also ready to defend myself, especially if there’s a cupcake involved.

Perry has the ability to scent other people’s tempers and he can tell what kind of mood they’re in.
I also possess this ability. I can totally tell if some girl is jealous of the attention Perry is paying me instead of her. (OK, so her stink eye is a dead giveaway, but whatevs.)

Perry is considered a “Savage” because he grew up in the Tides and I suppose he does come across a little wild when he takes down a whole group of Craven but it was a life or death situation.
I’ve also been called “savage”, just ask anyone whose ever played a board game with me. (I guess it is kinda like taking your life into your own hands. *shrugs*)

I love that Perry isn’t afraid to do the right thing or risk his life for those he cares about.
I’m the same way. For instance, you mess with my Perry and I will TAKE.YOU.OUT! (No hard feelings, right?)

This is kinda how I picture Perry. (Hair & lips)

So yeah, those are just a few of the reasons I’m crushing on Perry and I’m not sorry his next book doesn’t come out for a few weeks. Why? Because it means more time for us to hang out under the mistletoe, so, pucker up Perry! ;D

~ Erica’s Crush ~

My current book boy crush is Sam Henry from Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally. This book came out December 1 of last year (2011) and I’m still crushing hard on him and convinced he is the hottest boy in YA. He is seriously just a super great guy and such a good friend. It doesn’t help that he plays football and is way too funny. Despite Miranda Kenneally telling me that she thinks one of the boys in her new book is hotter, I still remain unconvinced. Sam Henry all the way!! In my head, I picture him as a younger version of Channing Tatum.

~ Rosanne’s Crush ~

Patrick Pennington of Pennington’s Last Term (1971), The Beethoven Medal (1972), and Pennington’s Heir (1974) by K.M. Peyton.

Pat is a restless genius and classical pianist with a rocking body, monumental contempt for authority, compulsion to do the right thing, and tender passion for the girl he loves. Whether fighting his arch-nemesis or performing, he gives it his considerable all. On top of that, K.M. Peyton is a fantastic writer who makes her characters utterly believable.

This is the author’s drawing, so it’s probably “accurate” but….

I’d go a little more like Heath Ledger—he had the right build, etc,–but tougher and more wiry. Don’t know who that would be! But, hey, that’s why books are better than movies! Everyone gets their perfect fantasy guy.

~ Jill’s Crush ~

My book boy is Aiden St Delphi from Jennifer Armentrout’s Covenant series. There are 4 books in the series; Half-Blood, Pure, Deity, and the final book ‘Apollyon‘ will be coming out in April of 2013. That is way too long for me.  I need it NOW. Seriously, Deity (the 3rd book in the series) almost made me go into labor. For real.

Anyway, Aiden is not your typical guy. No siree. He is a Sentinel, meaning he hunts daimons and kills them. He is a Pure-Blood (his parents are 2 Hemotoi, which is a child of a Greek god and a mortal). He is strong, kicks some major daimon behind and did I mention he’s gorgeous? He has storm colored eyes that turn to silver when his emotions get high….um….yeah. He is also in love with Alexandria (‘Alex’), but they are not allowed to be together because she is a half-blood. If they did give into their feelings, Alex would be killed and Aiden would never be able to live with himself.

I love his integrity, his romantic side, his strength and just how ‘good’ he is.  He cares deeply about others.  I cannot wait to read more. *swoon*

The Book: Just One Day
The Author: Gayle Forman
Release Date: January 8, 2013
Name of Character: Willem De Ruiter

Why I Want to Meet Up With Him Under the Mistletoe:
Listen, I’m not a girl who typically goes for bad boys, the ones who obviously take advantage of all of the female attention that their good looks earn them. However, I will make an exception for Willem, because he’s incredibly intelligent, Dutch, really tall, speaks multiple languages, and can quote Shakespeare to me. THUD. Yeah, that was the sound of me swooning to the floor. Seriously, the boy is just hot. Also, he’s slightly older than the typical YA guy, so I don’t have to feel as much like a creeper as usual. Hurray! The sequel to Just One Day, Just One Year, will be told from Willem’s perspective and I am so excited about that.

I picture him as Benjamin Stone, who, though British, has similar looks. Gorgeous, obviously, with blond hair and brown eyes. Yum.

~ Mandy’s Crush ~

If I found myself in the post-apocalyptic world of Rootless by Chris Howard (November 2012), I’d definitely have a crush on Banyan. (I might even try to figure out how to get him under the mistletoe — fake mistletoe made out of bits of scrap, mind you — as long as Alpha and her nail gun weren’t anywhere around.)

Banyan has a lot of things going for him: he’s loyal to the core, doesn’t back down, respects and cares for others, and he’s a feminist. Hollah! I like that he’d let me stand on my own two feet beside him in a battle, rather than feeling like he had to run to my rescue at every turn. Did I mention he’s an artist? He builds trees out of scrap metal, lighting them up with dazzling bulbs that burn bright against the barren sky. Banyan has a lot of passion, so much so that it’s magnetic. I could definitely see myself falling for him while on a journey across the ravaged US.

I don’t usually see specific faces when I read, so it was hard for me to find a photo of Banyan, but I thought this one captured the stark hopelessness of Rootless, as well as Banyan’s demeanor.

Eeep! Gotta go, Alpha (Banyan’s girlfriend), just gave me the evil eye and loaded her nail gun. Word to the wise, don’t mess with punk pirates!

I admit it, I love a good YA that has a hero I really care about. He doesn’t have to be drop-dead gorgeous (okay, maybe that does help a tad bit!) but needs to be multi-layered. Right now I’m torn between two Damons.

Oh, what’s a girl to do?

One of my crushes is in both books and on television:

damon salvatore tvd by tomsgg-d32sh1g

Yes, Damon.

**Fans self.

If you don’t know him, he’s one of the Salvador brothers in The Vampire Diaries. Yes, he’s a vampire but who cares?

Before the hit TV show, The Vampire Diaries was a successful book series written by L.J. Smith in 1991. The novels have continued, along with a spin-off series that follows the TV series called Stefan’s Diaries.

The recent Vampire Diary book I loved had to be SHADOW SOULS (VAMPIRE DIARIES: THE RETURN SERIES #2)

The reason why I love Damon so much is he’s the classic anti-hero. Sure he seems to be a bloodsucking vampire but deep down he shows his vulnerabilities like his love for Elena. His humanity is shown in subtle moments that make him even more endearing. In this book, Elena goes on a road trip with Damon to find Stefan. The romance and chemistry between these two is very steamy.

Here’s another Daemon that I love:

Daemon

He’s found in the amazing YA Sci-fi series LUX by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The first book in the series, OBSIDIAN, introduces us to Daemon who comes across as arrogant and full of himself. Only later does new girl in town, Katy, find out the truth behind her standoffish neighbor. The chemistry between these two literally sizzles on the pages. The romance between Katy and Daemon is similar to the chemistry of Max and Liz in the 2000 TV series ROSWELL.

Book three, OPAL, came out on December 11th!

So that’s it! Those are some of our book boy crushes. Now tell us yours!

  1. Jenn S. says:

OH! Thank you so much for including Pennington!! I love him 🙂

  2. Tammy says:

Daemon from The Lux Series! 😀

  3. Hay says:

That’s not a picture of Daemon fromnLux. Its his brother. That was him on the cover of the novella Shadows.

  4. Casog says:

I’ve always loved Todd Hewitt from The Knife of Letting Go. He was just an amazing character, and I know he has Viola, but I just can’t help crushing on him. In most books i don’t crush on the main male character, as the majority of the time they already have that special someone, but I just can’t resist Todd.

  5. Ken says:

How about having your “crush” be a handsome time-traveler from 1890??

You might “like” the page for my second book — this time, a novel — a Young Adult fantasy romance about time travel. Check it out here, along with my periodic blog-like posts about its progress toward completion!

(I’m hoping to build an audience for the book, get an agent for the publication, and possibly a movie deal for rights to the book before it’s even published — a Facebook first!)
