About Habitats is such a beautifully illustrated and interesting book. If you have a curious child who enjoys learning about the ocean, this is a must read. And if you’re looking for a great learning experience you and your child can enjoy together, even better. Each page is filled with colorful images and interesting facts, but young readers will find this is not a text heavy book. Perfect for a child who wants to learn visually.
However, as informative the text is, it does come off a bit bland. A little more personality might appeal to young readers who don’t normally like to read. Otherwise, I found About Habitats enjoyable and educational—perfect for home as well as the science classroom.
I would recommend this book for school libraries as well as for young children to share with parents and teachers.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Although the cover was not, for me, immediately engaging, once I opened this book, the combination of beautifully-wrought illustrations and simple yet encompassing information about the ocean made for an enchanting read. The short and concise descriptions of different animals and ocean habitats convey a lot of information in an easy-to-understand way, and the paintings enhance the descriptions ten-fold. If the reader desires even more information, there are more detailed descriptions he or she can access in the back of the book. This has definitely piqued my oldest daughter's interest in ocean animals, and she could even identify a couple of them when we went to the aquarium this past weekend!

As a child, I absolutely devoured any book I could get my hands on that had to do with the sea, and this would have made a welcome addition to my collection then; however, I am quite satisfied to have it in my collection now. I may have to check out the other "About Habitats" books as well!
