About This Book:

Miss Peregrine meets The Graveyard Book in this middle grade adventure about rival siblings running a monster mortuary—written by bestselling author Chuck Wendig.

Thirteen-year-old Molly doesn’t know how she got the short end of the stick—being raised by her neglectful father—while Dustin, the older brother she’s never met, got their mother and the keys to the family estate. But now the siblings are both orphaned, she’s come home for her inheritance, and if Dustin won’t welcome her into the family business, then she’ll happily take her half in cash.

There’s just one problem: the family business is a mortuary for monsters, and Molly’s not sure she’s ready to deal with mysterious doors, talking wolves, a rogue devourer of magic, and a secret cemetery. It’s going to take all of Dustin’s stuffy supernatural knowledge and Molly’s most heroic cosplay (plus a little help from non-human friends) for the siblings to figure it out and save the day… if only they can get along for five minutes.

Bestselling author Chuck Wendig’s middle grade debut is equal parts spooky, funny, and heartfelt—perfect for Halloween and year-round reading!

Dust & Grim

Thirteen-year-old Molly finds out she’s entitled to part of a mortuary business after the death of her father. She also finds out that she has a brother. Now she wants what she feels is rightfully hers. Her uncle Gordo pushes her to find some secrets inside the creepy mortuary and along the way she encounters many supernatural beings and a truth that is stranger.

What worked: Hilarious, fun MG paranormal adventure that includes a mortuary business that serves ‘nonstandard’ citizens-the supernatural. Think The Graveyard Book meets Skullduggery Pleasant with a dash of Goosebumps. Fast-paced with engaging, hilarious dialogue. Molly struggles to find out what is really behind the mystery of her being abandoned with a neglectful father and why she didn’t know about an older brother. The sibling rivalry turns once they both know they have to work together to save not only the family business, but the day.

There’s some fun and interesting paranormals in this book. A ghost hidden in a design on wallpaper-Tessellated quatrefoil. A being that eats magical beings-a Devourer. Vampires. A florg. And other quirkiness that includes twists on words like libroratory-a combo of a library and a laboratory.

Engaging, fun romp in a paranormal world. Sure to appeal to fans of paranormals. A perfect read for the Halloween season.
