I will tell you the story of how I found this book before I go on to saying how much I loved this awesome book. It was last year, at my old school's Spring Fair. I was in the pre-owned books (like always) with my best friend, Louisa. She found it buried deep in the bottom of the pile. She read the blurb and said she was getting it. She wouldn't even let me read the blurb!! When she had finished, she was kind enough to lend it to me to read. And, I was so glad she found it!! This book took my breath away, and stopped my heart, it was so amazing.

The idea of shadow hunters, ancestors of angels, I found truly fascinating. I loved the idea so much that I dreamt of becoming one (yes I know that is embarrassing, but it's true). The characters were described vividly and this helped me put together a mental picture of every single one. I think that the way it was written, in no one's eyes, made sure you got to see a lot more than if it was just in Clary's eyes.

My favorite character should be Jace because I liked his character but when I got in to the next few books I kinda started to stop liking him. I think that my favorite character throughout the whole series was Alec. Every single book he was just perfect. Even though he was gay, that just made me love him more, because he was so different to the rest of them. His personality was just awesome, and he was so kind. I just loved him.

I just loved every part of this book. It's truly fantastic!!!!

Good Points
Oh dear, where to begin...
This book is number one on my Top 20 booklist! I love it so much. Clary goes through such adversity emotionally and physically that it's just heartbreaking when that evil twist comes along. And Jace, that handsome, overprotective, bad boy will literally make you fall in love with him. The plot of this story unravels when Clary's mom is kidnapped and it turns out her whole life was hidden from her. She discovers that she is a shadow hunter and it just starts from there. This book will always hold a place in your heart for books, you will never put this book down and you will kill for the next sequels.

Why ever date a sparkly vampire that doesn't explode in sunlight or an oversize chihuahua who both seem to be overprotective when I could date a guy who is 10x hotter and clearly knows how to impress a woman?

Quite simply really, you don't.

Basically this story is about a 15 year old girl named Clare (short for Clarissa if I remember right) Fray who went to a Teen Club night party with her best friend Simon and while they were there she see's something that most teenagers don't even think of being able to witness. A murder. Though there's one problem, she's the only one that saw it and no one believes her.

Then after a few days of this event she learns that her mother has been lying to her for well... her entire life and the truth changes her lifestyle completely. In more ways then one.

All in all I think its a great mystery/adventure/dramatic/hilarious novel and can't wait to read the rest! The characters are believable to an extent and the love-triangle/square/some-other-odd-shape is just AMAZING! I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes anything with plot twists with characters along with anything fantasy related. Yes I'm talking to you too Twilight fans.

City of Bones is Clary´s story, the story of how she discovers a big
amount of secrets about her, her mother and a new and fantastic world:
the world of the Shadowhunters.
After that night at Pandemonium, accompanied by Simon, her best friend
(or something else?) everything in her life changes, she can see things
no one else can, like that three mysterious guys that night, and when
she finds out her mother has disappeared she gets involved in the
searching not only for her mother but for the truth about her
relationships with the shadowhunters.

The book has everything I could wish for: mystery, romance, drama,
intrigue, and all that makes it really special. I found the story while
not refreshing very well written, the plot is way interesting and the
characters are elaborated enough. I liked the whole book, because is
filled with little details that could be important at some point, it
kept me reading and reading (when I had the time to read).

If I had to pick a favorite part there would be two: the kiss between
Clary and Jace (and all the Simon-Clary drama) and the final part, from
the moment Luke tells the whole story to Clary to the very end of the
book.
I would definitely say that City of bones is a highly recommended book
that you will really enjoy, and then you will want more.

In City Of Bones, book one in The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare, we meet Clary Fray a normal teenage girl who lives at home with her mother. One night she witnesses a murder, but cannot prove the crime because the victim disappears right in front of her eyes. She finds out later that the tattooed teens that murdered the boy are a group called Shadowhunters who kill demons. The strange thing is no one else can see them except for Clary. When she arrives home from the strange night she realizes that her mother has been kidnapped and the only way she can get her back is to find the Mortal Cup before it's to late. She finds herself becoming part of the shadowhunter world as she learns more and more about her and her mothers life. She also begins falling in love with one of them , Jace Wayland, a sarcastic teenage boy with the bad boy edge.

This is a easy read with some action, romance and suspense. I would recommend it to someone who enjoys not having to think to much while they read. You really get to know the characters and begin to feel like you have stepped into their lives.

I don't know where to begin with this amazing book.  I was entranced.  I recommend this to all fantasy and urban fantasy fans.  Many compare it to Harry Potter.  I feel that all fantasy books will be, in some form or another, compared to the "Mighty Harry".  I, however, feel that it is a magical story all of its own.  The characters are fun, tough and full of flaws. No one is perfect and they embrace it!   The setting is fresh and so believable, even though it's not!  The writing has such a flow that it feels so natural while reading it.  The characters have such distinct personalities, you can literally see them jumping off of the pages.  I could sit here and type out a general synopsis of the story, but I won't.  I am going to insist that if this is your typical genre choice for reading, READ THIS BOOK!  You will not be disappointed!

I love this book! Cassandra Claire enticingly blends fantasy and reality in her debut novel. The story moves along at a frantic pace and pulls you in without letting go. This is one of those rare books that is impossible to put down. The fantasy world is layered underneath the New York City that we all know. I recommend this book for anyone, but particularly for fantasy lovers. This is one book that will not disappoint!

This is now one of my favorite books. I usually don't read too much fantasy stuff - I usually can't get into it too well. This book was exactly the opposite. I was hooked quickly and the fast pace ensured that I would finish it quickly, also.

Clary seems like a real down-to-Earth character, despite everything that is happening to her (I won't tell you because I don't want to spoil it!). The way she reacts is the way I think I would react if any of this happened to me. All the characters were described really well and had growth in the book.

I would only change one thing, though. Everything would get really exciting, and then slow down dramatically, then get exciting, and slow down again, etc. I think this book would be even more incredible if it didn't slow down so much in between the main events.

Overall, though, this is a great book and if you are debating whether you would like it, you most likely will.
