City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1)

On first glance, this book looked simply like another cheesy fantasy love story, but I was truly proved wrong on that count. The premise of the Shadowhunters, children of angels and men, is unique out of the fiction I have read. The deep background and rich Downworld lore woven into the plot enriches the plot.
The characters were well thought out and engaging, relatable and still unique. In my opinion they had just the right ratio of virtues to flaws. The plot was suspenseful and gripping, with plenty of twists. I couldn't put it down!

Great beginning to a new series

The first book in the mortal instruments series takes on a new world full of mysterious creatures.This book is great for young adults and teenagers who are up for an exciting, thrilling, funny book. The book is about a girl named Clary who gets unexpectedly pushed into the world of shadowhunters. There she meets a boy named Jace who is like none other she has met. His funny jokes and his sarcastic comments will have you reading forever. Clary takes on the supernatural world where she encounters vampires, demons, werewolves, vampires, warlocks, and of course shadowhunters. There she realizes she is more involved with this new world than she knows. Determined to find out more, she seeks help from a bunch of shadowhuntes after her mum disappears. Torn apart Clary realizes love might be the greatest choice of all. To love is to destroy and to love is to be the one destroyed.This book had me hooked, reading till morning. Its perfect and i just cant wait for the upcoming movie to come out. The books are surely far better though. An excellent read. A breath taking experience.

Then as you get wrapped up in this unique world, you also get wrapped up in this equally unique story Cassandra Clare has intricately woven, with secrets and truths, romance and war …

Of course my favorite part of this book was the plot. I’m never one to turn down a good plot, and this one was no exception. Though this book was clearly only the beginning of Clary’s long journey into the world of Shadowhunters, I was nonetheless lured in by the mystery and the romance. A Shadowhunter — also known as Nephilim, the offspring of an angel and a human who hunts down demons — named Valentine had sought to destroy all Downworlders (the term used for vampires, werewolves, faeries, and warlocks collectively), and in the first installment of this series, he has supposedly risen from the dead again. And Clary? I know this is totally a spoiler, but she’s not a mundane. But she may just end up to be essential to destroying Valentine once and for all …

I love Clary. She’s honest and clever and artistic, and plus, she’s a natural redhead. Having her as the protagonist makes the world of Shadowhunters, well, less crazy. She’s a normal person — she could be my best friend or one of my classmates. But she’s a bit of a Mary Sue. As normal as she is, sometimes I find that she’s TOO pretty or that she’s made out to be TOO smart. She doesn’t have any bad qualities, and that puts a frown on my face, because as likable as she is, she’s not so realistic.

Jace … oh my. Jace is THE epitome of a “bad boy” in the YA universe. Hot, golden looks with a snarky attitude but an inner sweet-ness … He’s the kind of boy that will melt your insides. And though he seems so perfect, he certainly has his bad qualities, which actually DO make him more realistic. His romance with Clary? Fast and furious. A little too fast-paced for me, but I love them together. They’re a beautiful couple — one that seems to love each other so beautifully and purely that they put shame to other couples in the same room. Oh, but that ending!

To put my review into a nutshell, I adored this book. I really, really did, but it was lacking in a few areas — mainly how unrealistic it was. But would I read the sequel? Of course.

This was a new plot that I had never read before. It was nice, and I really like it! Jace!
Clary actually got on my nerves quite a lot. She seemed like she was always in the way, and Mrs. Clare seemed to write it that trouble just followed her.
But the characters are really original, their personalities really shine through.

Amazuperific (mix of amazing-super-terrific)!! I thought the book was great, but since I'd read Clockwork Angel, I thought it was a bit the same. I found the writing rather enjoyable; slow, detailed, but still great!

Jace was a lot like Will Herondale (character in Clockwork Angel, which I recommend to everyone!) I liked Clary a lot! She was fun.

I absolutely cannot wait to read the sequel! Cassandra Clare is a great author; her writing is so amazing!

This book is full of adrenaline from start to finish. It takes you on an exhilirating adventure, exploring a world full of mystery and danger. The characters truly came alive. I couldn't put it down. It's a definite must read.

Clary is just an ordinary teenage girl...or so she thinks.

When Clary sees a strange blue-haired boy in the night club killed by a group of three other teenagers things start changing for Clary. Especially no one can see the three teenagers.r

Along with the havoc there, Clary recieves a phone call from her mother. A very unusual phone call. When she dashes back to her apartment, she finds it in ruins, her mother gone and a demon waitng.

Luckily, she's rescued by one of the "unseeable" teenager from the nightclub, Jace who turns out to be a Shadowhunter-or someone who kills demons-and someone whom she can trust.



Despite the danger to herself, Clary's determined to find her mother and to know who (or what) she is. With many plot twists and turns and likeable characters for the ride, City of Bones is a remarkable novel that all teens who like a bit of fantasy, romance and intrigue, should pick up.
