THE GREAT BIG EGG HUNT is a cute lift-the-flap book that allows children to search for eggs alongside Rabbit and friends. The story begins with Rabbit searching for eggs in her living room. She finds one egg but also Chick, who joins her hunt as they travel next to the bathroom. Multiple flaps on each page reveal the insides of cabinets, shelves, and other good hiding spots with an egg to find on each spread - until the end when all the friends find eggs for everyone.

What I loved: This is a simple and cute concept with building animal friends joining the search for eggs around the house and yard. Along the way, places and objects are introduced that bring up the house and its contents. Adorable and colorful illustrations make it a fun book to visually explore as well.

The number of flaps is great and will work well for older toddlers and preschoolers. As each flap also has some text, it can take a while to get through the page spreads, which also works well for slightly older board book/lift-the-flap fans. The non-religious Easter theme adds to the fun of the holiday with a bookish egg hunt!

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the flaps each have text that is designed to be read in a specific order from left to right. For many young readers, they will open flaps at random. This can lead to a bit of non sequiturs along the way, but it is a relatively small thing. Some of the flaps can also be a bit tough to open, as they are very flat, but this gets easier with time. The thinness of the flaps will also make them rip for rougher little ones.

Final verdict: THE GREAT BIG EGG HUNT is a charming lift-the-flap book that will work well for little ones who like to search for eggs. Adorable animals and colorful images around the house add to the fun for toddlers and preschoolers.
