Obioma Plays Football is about a girl who loves to play football (Soccer) with her friends. We start the story with a glimpse into her life at school.
It is not clear what country she lives in, but it seems to be Nigeria. This book is offered in the Igbo language as well. The story flows well but I do wonder if the English is translated because some of the events seem choppy.
We follow Obioma as she goes from an inclusive school that has ramps to a school that does not believe girls can play football and does not have accommodations for her wheelchair. Obioma makes friends and finds a way to show her skills resulting in a joyous ending.
Overall, this book tries to show that Obioma is like everyone else and is a story of friendship. It does have some choppy scenes or gets off topic with her thinking she will be in trouble for sneaking into a farm to get fruit only to find out she is moving and only some of the book is about her playing football so the story feels unfocused at times.
