The child’s imagination is ignited the day her parents bring home a big yellow balloon that bobs and floats around. She leads it through all her daily activities and communicates with it like it is her friend. The balloon brings her much joy until she accidentally lets it loose outside. Her parents help her deal with the loss and she finds joy again with things that remind her of her balloon.
Many children use objects or dolls to create a special always friend that can come along on their daily adventures and could relate to this story. It could also be used as an introduction to grief or loss for children coping with events in their lives that they are too young to understand. The illustrations are whimsical and the color palette is muted and gentle throughout the story. Overall, this is a gentle story about finding joy again after loss.
