Kid Review: Holly and the Pittie Party by Julian Frischherz

About This Book:

After her family realizes the puppy they adopted is a pit bull, Holly finds herself abandoned in the city. To make matters worse, many people are unwilling to help her because of the misconceptions about her breed. Holly’s search for love (and food) takes her through the city to a dog park, an animal shelter, and, finally, a fabulous pittie party. Against the backdrop of a culture not yet ready to accept all kinds of dogs, Holly learns that love and belonging are still possible.

Pittie Plight

With the upbeat title and vibrant rainbow color scheme throughout I did not expect this book to start on a sad note. Holly is a pitbull and once she grew up her humans abandoned her to a life on the streets due to this breed’s reputation for being dangerous. Holly does get a happy ending in the book thankfully. This book does a great job of raising awareness of the plight of this breed and how they are often mistreated because of fear. I would encourage anyone to research their breed of dog and make the right decision for their family situation so they can offer their pet a forever home. This book perfectly shows what happens when you do not. This book does a great job raising awareness but may not be right for more sensitive readers.
