What I liked:
First Night of Howlergarten is a perfect story for children to read as they head off to school. All children are a bit nervous when they transition to school. They are not sure entirely what to expect. In this case, a lot is on the line, for if Sophie fails to turn into a werewolf, will she lose her pack and be cast out forever. That is a lot of pressure on a young child. The book shows how the children train and, most importantly, how they build up each other as they face the full moon.
Final Verdict:
First Night of Howlergarten is the perfect Halloween book, and it works for the start of school and all the fantastic new friends or pack that kids will meet when they go. I loved the engaging illustrations, and sure, when you read them to your kids, they will be howling to the moon along with Sophie as she faces the challenge of being human or wolf.
