Lions and scorpions and lethal little jellyfish, oh my! Kids will sink their teeth into this fascinating look at nature’s fiercest creatures.

Sometimes nature can be nasty: snakes that spit poison, insects with exploding bottoms, and tigers that have you for dinner. Throughout the animal kingdom, creatures are equipped with lethal weapons, from finger-length fangs to toxic tentacles, and have ingenious ways of killing one another — poisoning, dive-bombing, strangling, and even electrocuting! Discover the murderous methods of attack and defense that make animals armed, dangerous, and deadly.

Get ready to learn AND laugh your socks off: Deadly! is a freaky creature extravaganza, with it's gory descriptions and grotesque depictions, and you (and your kids) will be delighted.

At first glance, I didn't realize the pictures within were so gruesome. It was only when my 4 1/2 year old daughter told me that she "didn't like all the blood with the lions" that I grabbed the book from her and held back a giant guffaw as I looked at the drawing she had mentioned. I showed it to my husband and we both stifled our laughter as we calmly explained to her that yes, indeed, animals kill each other.

And that's part of the beauty of this book as well. It is for an older age group, for sure, but kids need to know the reality about the natural world. It's a dog-eat-dog (or snake-eat-animal or lion-rip-apart-antelope) world out there. I (yes, me, a grown-up) thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the many weapons animals and insects have in their arsenal to kill other creatures. My husband and I eagerly had this book by our bedside for a few nights as we gobbled up the information and laughed at the fantastic illustrations. This may especially be a great book to get for little boys, but I will say, boy or girl, GET this book for your learning library. You won't regret it.
