Six thousand years ago. Evil stalks the land. Only twelve-year-old Torak and his wolf-cub companion can defeat it. Their journey together takes them through deep forests, across giant glaciers, and into dangers they never imagined.

In this page-turning, original, and spectacularly told adventure story, Torak and Wolf are joined by an incredible cast of characters as they battle to save their world, in this first book in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness.

Set in the distant past (circa 6000 years ago), Wolf Brother is the story of young Torak. From the very first pages of the book, he is in mortal danger. He has lived alone with his father all his young life and now, after a brutal attack by a demon-possessed bear, his father is dying. They are part of the Wolf Clan, but Toraks fathers last instructions to him are not to seek people out, but to instead journey many days away to find the Spirit of the Mountain so that the bear can be defeated before it kills the Forest. He tells Torak that his guide will find him.

Torak is a special boy, he just never knew it (and only gradually learns just how special as the book goes on). His father brought him up away from people and never told him anything about his past, other than the names of the clans of his people. Most other people live amongst their clans and hunt and work together.

Toraks unlikely guide, an orphaned wolf cub, does indeed find him quickly and the two start off on their dangerous trek north. They are beset by every challenge you can imagine: lack of food, problems with shelter, and run ins with the Raven Clan who believe that Torak might be the Listener foretold in prophecy (the only one who can defeat the bear&but they disagree on whether its him or simply his blood that will do it, putting Toraks life in danger).

Soon Torak is on the run with Renn, a girl from the Raven Clan who is helping him even though she is not sure she can trust him or not. Wolf is an ever-present help as he lopes along and will likely be a favorite among young readers.

This is a fast-paced read with lots of action and a good sense of setting. Definitely a good pick for reluctant readers (especially boys). There are two more books that follow this one (Spirit Walker and Soul Eater) that will keep them reading. Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Wolf brother is about Torak, a boy living c.6000 years ago in a time of magic and stones. This book starts just as Torak's father is dying. Out on his own, Torak has a massive destiny to fulfill, destroy the demon bear.

Full of epic adventure, excitment and survival, this book is a great read for 10+ boys and maybe some girls to. With an amazing storyline, even kids who don't enjoy reading will be drawn in, I was.

Torak is only 12 moons old when he is forced to embark on one of the hardest, most dangerous adventures anyone could face.  He and he Fa lived isolated in the woods his whole life.  Then, one day, a giant bear attacked, leaving Torak an orphan.  Now, he must go to the Spirit Mountain with his guide, a young wolf, to destroy the demon-possessed bear.  Will he succeed?

Wolf Brother is a good read.  There are no major flows.  However, it is not exactly exciting.  Although it is a short novel, it moves too slow.  The animals and the customs make the story much more interesting.  I am now reading the second book, which seems to be better.  The reading level is fourth grade, but I would recommend it for fifth to seventh grade.

Wolf Brother is an amazing book! When Torak's father dies, he makes Torak swear to travel to Mountain of the World Spirit (or die trying), and that he will have a guide. Later on, he's hungry and sees a wolf. He wants to eat it, but he can't. It's his guide. They are captured by Raven Clan, where Renn helps Torak escape, because she believes that killing him is not the answer to the problem with their clan. He finds the three pieces of the nanuak to get the world spirit with Renn and Wolf, and kills the demon bear, the one that was possesed, the one that killed his father.

"This is a girl's book! Wolves! Poeu!" Don't you DARE try saying that. Wolf Brother is an amazing book that boys and girls will both love. It is a story of friendship and trust. I don't want to sound like a narrative, so I would just like to say that everyone should read this book. It is truly amazing. Oh, and I forgot to tell you- Torak can understand and speak (though it's harder for him, not having a tail) to wolves... the reason? The reason is in the next book!

This has got to be the best book i have ever read and i recommend it to anyone. It was a book that really got my imagination working. Its the type of book that keeps you busy for hours and you are able to read it more than once.

It shows how much courage and persitance one can have to achieve a task that may have once been out of reach. It reveals the amount of love one can have for another and how much it can grow over time.

Over all I thought it was an amazing book and I cant wait to read the rest of the sequence.
