BLACK BALLERINAS highlights twenty-seven women of color who followed their dreams of becoming dancers. These women inspired author and dancer Misty Copeland and with this book, she wants to spread that same encouragement to other children like her who want to be ballerinas. Not only is this book about performing arts, but it's also an art form in itself with the mixture of history and illustrations that pop.

Each section features a ballerina, her history, and an uplifting quote she's said. The illustrations are stunning and show the dancer in her true beauty. I love the consistent color theme throughout the book and how each picture looks like a gorgeous painting. The facts provided are relevant and will inspire young dancers everywhere to follow their dream. Reading their stories is empowering and each one is an amazing role model.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children who show an interest in ballet and other performing arts. These stories will show them that they can do it too. Misty Copeland has done an amazing job at sharing her inspiration with the younger generation in a form that will captivate their attention with one glance.
