‘The Zee Files: Girl/Friend’ by Tina Wells launches Zee into the world of being a girlfriend, but she’s not quite sure how she likes it. Archie seems needy at times, and Zee doesn’t know if being with him is right for her. She does know how she feels when she’s around him, though, and in general, it’s a happy feeling and one she likes. Being with him seems right, but she has to figure out if being his girlfriend is the right way to do it.

Zee’s relationship with Archie is just one piece of the story. Zee’s friends don’t really understand her relationship with him, and she stays kind of quiet about it, not wanting to divulge too much since she isn’t sure of her relationship herself. This causes some strife in her friend group, as she isn’t quite sure just how to communicate with Jasper, Jameela, and the other friends she’s made since being on campus at her new boarding school, The Hollows. She doesn’t want to have to choose, but it seems like she might have to, and it’s making her life increasingly difficult.

She tries to get her mind off of things by planning a sleepover at her house with friends from school, but that doesn’t quite turn out the way she planned either, even though her mother goes all out to make it super special. With the Harvest Dance around the corner and the semester drawing to a close, Zee wants to make the right choices and keep all of her friends—including Archie—but figuring out how to make that happen is not coming easily.

This third book about Zee captures her insecurities and more about how she is acclimating to life living at The Hollows with friends new and old, along with typical pressures that teenagers face, from crushes to friendships and more.
