Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a bat in a costume! Pat the bat is a fan of comic books and superheroes, and rather than hanging up-side-down during the day like other bats, Pat decides to create a superhero outfit and become Superbat! When they wake up, the other bats are excited to have a superhero in their midst, but when they ask Pat to tell them his superpower, he can't think of anything that makes him any more special than the others. When he hears a mouse family in danger, Pat goes to their rescue and finds out that some superpowers aren't based on physical skills.

SUPERBAT by Matt Carr is a fun picture book that will captivate kids while teaching them about bats. The illustrations are great, and the story is detailed, but brief. The message that you can be a superhero without superpowers will resonate, and the "Batty Facts" at the end of the book round the whole thing out nicely. Plus, it's fun to read out loud.

SUPERBAT is a terrific picture book, and my thanks to the publisher and YA Books Central for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. Here's hoping that SUPERBAT has many more adventures after this one.
