A little girl has an older neighbor who she likes to refer to as "My Poet" because she loves to write poetry. The two of them like to go on walks together and the older woman teaches the little girl where her inspiration comes from. She shows her how to look at the world with a curious mind and paint items in a beautiful light with inspiring words. In the end, the girl finds her courage to write a poem of her own.

MY POET is a sweet and endearing story about a little girl who wants to be a poet just like her neighbor. The only problem is that she has trouble finding the right words to use. For that reason, she loves to spend time with her older neighbor so she can learn her ways. While this heartfelt story is about poetry, there isn't much in it. The only real poetry is the poem the girl writes in the end. That being said, this would make a cute story for little poets who need a bit of help too. The illustrations are soft and I love the detail because it helps the reader see where the older poet gets her descriptions from.

Final Verdict: Overall, this is a touching story that would be perfect for young aspiring poets. It may help give them guidance on how to find inspiration in everything around them and the correct wording to make a poem flow.
