This book does so much more than introduce and practice the idea of opposites. It can be read at two levels. You could just stick to the sentences at the top that address the opposites. However, this text can go beyond that and ask the questions at the bottom that extend what is happening in the illustrations to invite children to count, asks predictive questions of what comes next, as well as abstract thinking such as how they think something happened or what might happen next, or how they feel in that situation. The board book makes this a sturdy book for young hands and the questioning allows for this to grow with your child to increase their language skills in so many ways beyond just the concept of teaching opposites. This is a smart choice for building language with your young child!
