I liked the idea of Fat Vampire. A realistic account of an average kid getting turned into a vampire, as apposed to most vamp stories with moodiness and angst. I thought this book would be a nice comedic relief type book, and it did start that way. Somewhere along the way though it turned into the same vamp angst, just written a bit differently. There’s still the evil vampire lord, the confused hero, and the love interest even if the love isn’t returned. (though I think it was more infatuation) There were some funny moments. The bloodmobile scene comes to mind, but once Doug bit that deer I lost my connection to him as a character. The end was very confusing to me. Did he die? Did he live? What happened to Abby, or Jay? Fat Vampire isn’t necessarily a bad book. It was imagitive and well written but it just wasn't the kind of book I thought it was or really liked.
