Helen's mission as "The Descender", is to spend every night in Hades, in search of the Furies, those pesky little sisters who make the Delos' family members want to rip each others heads off constantly. In doing so, she suffers from lack of sleep and actual rest which has a negative impact during her waking hours. With the weight of both the mortal and the ancient Greek worlds weighing heavily on her shoulders, Helen begins to crack.

Frustrated and angry, Helen can't even confide in Lucas, the one person she feels the most connected to because they're supposed to forget the other even exists. How do you forget the other half of your heart though? Just when things couldn't get any more complicated in Helen's life, a new guy shows up bringing with him danger and risk, not only to her mission but to her heart as well.

Time begins to run out with an unseen enemy who seeks to destroy them all. Chaos breaks out in both worlds leaving Helen to wonder if she'll be able to complete her mission or if the pressure of it all will prove too much?

The second book in a series can be tricky because there's the hype of the first book to live up to, unanswered questions and love interests to work out. In the case of Dreamless, there was the pesky question of whether or not, Helen and Lucas, the star-crossed lovers were really cousins or not. The simple math laid out in Starcrossed would say no, but Helen's mother, Daphne said otherwise. (and everyone took her word for it) That question remains to be seen in book two, in fact, another hot guy enters into the equation when we meet, Orion, an Adonis lookalike. Oddly enough, he's still related to Helen somehow but then again, isn't everyone in Mythology?

There are so many gods and demigods to keep track of in Mythology and unless you have a real love for it, it can be extremely confusing. This particular story seemed to drag in places and really, I just wanted to know if Lucas and Helen were in fact, cousins. Dreamless does set the stage for an epic battle that will apparently take place in the third book. Hopefully, by then all the loose ends will be tied up and we'll know for sure who fathered who and when, which demigods and humans survive and live happily ever after or who'll spend eternity wandering through the Underworld.
