I had a hard time rating this book. I enjoyed it. I did. But there was something about it that also irked me. Maybe it was the academia setting as I'm finding this really aren't for me - however, I don't know if I'd classify this as a "dark academia". It had characteristics of one but I felt like it didn't seem mature enough. The premise was interesting, although very predictable. The writing was good, plot wise. I read through it fast because I did like the underlying story.

I think one of my issues was the characters. It's one of the reasons I'm not a fan of dark academia books, because I can't stand any of the characters. They are all horrible. And maybe that's what bothered me about this book. All the side characters KNEW who they were and weren't trying to pretend otherwise. However, Tara pretended like she was a noble person but in reality she wasn't. I guarantee if she was brought into Magni Viri the first night, she wouldn't have had the same reaction she did throughout the book. She would have fallen in line with everyone else.

Overall, All That Consumes Us by Erica Waters was a decent read. The plot itself was interesting and kept me going. And I really did enjoy Waters' writing. However, this had too much of a dark academia setting for me and the more I read the genre, the more I'm realizing it's not for me. The characters were nothing memorable and I didn't like a single one. Although I read through this book pretty fast due to the storyline, I don't think this is one I'm keeping for my shelves. However, if you enjoy Dark Academia and cult paranormal settings - this book will be right up your alley!
