We have another great cover reveal for you, YABC!

Today we’re super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for HOW IT ENDS by Catherine Lo, releasing June 7, 2016 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books for Young Readers. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Catherine:

Hi YABC! Welcome to the cover reveal for HOW IT ENDS.

A little something about me – I’m a huge admirer of visual artists, but have absolutely zero skill in that area. Less than zero. So when people asked me what I hoped for in a cover, I just stared at them blankly. I couldn’t imagine how anyone would translate my book into cover art.

On the day the email arrived with the subject line Cover!, my hands were shaking so badly that it took me three tries to tap the attachment. And then the cover you’ll see below filled the screen. To say that I love it would be the understatement of the century. I’m so grateful to everyone at HMH Kids for all their hard work, including my editor Sarah Landis and the amazing designer who created this stunning cover, Cara Llewellyn.

I cannot wait to share this book with all of you, and revealing the cover is just the first step.

So scroll down and check it out! And let me know what you think on Twitter with the hashtag #HIEcover.

HOW IT ENDS

by Catherine Lo
Release date: June 7, 2016
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books for Young Readers
ISBN: 978-0-544-54006-4

About the Book

How it begins…

“You’re in my English class, right?”
I almost checked behind me to make sure she wasn’t talking to someone else.

How it unravels…

“You can be my best friend without being my only friend.”
Her words were knives raked along my skin. I could hear the goodbye in every syllable.

How it Ends.

Why should I keep her secrets when she didn’t keep mine? All it would take was one little click and a carefully worded message.

How it Ends is an honest, heart-wrenching tale of a friendship from first meeting to breakup. Told through alternating points of view, it is about two best friends’ tumultuous sophomore year of bullying, boys and backstabbing and what can happen when friends choose assumptions and fear over each other.

Oh I am SOO excited to read this! We’ve all had BFF’s. And we’ve all had issues w/said BFFs. But I’m betting none of us have dealt w/anything like the girls in HOW IT ENDS!! Just got chills!

  2. Mehsi says:

I love this cover, how it looks like they ripped open the heart and lay it bare to all to see. It is gorgeous, I also love the tape that surrounds it, it adds to the ripped heart, like they wanted to repair it.

Also that blurb, just wonderful, can’t wait to see how it is done in the book. I like dual POVs and I also love books about secrets and friends. Truly, this sounds like an amazingly great book.

  3. Erin L. Schneider says:

Look at how pretty this is!!! Oh so much love for this cover!!! I can’t wait to add this one to my bookshelves!

I love the colors and design of the cover. It’s gorgeous! As for the synopsis, I think that the story would be totally relateable. I mean, everyone’s had a falling-out with an ex-BFF or ex-friend at least once before, right? All in all, this is a book to look out for!

    I LIKE IT
I like the cover, but do not LOVE it. If it were not for the small quote in the upper right corner I probably would not like the cover at all. I find that it does not draw the eye.
The synopsis is good. Young adult readers will relate well to the content

  12. Lillian says:

The cover’s really interesting and I like how simple it is. The synopsis sounds like an interesting, fast-paced, realistic coming of age story.

  13. Shannon Mizikoski says:

I love this synopsis! It’s so rare to find books that focus SO much on friendship, and I know I can certainly relate to the life cycle of a friendship that fell apart. I think the cover is great, simple, but still eye catching!

  14. Kyla Fontalva says:

I love the cover! Simple yet beautiful. I am intrigued by the synopsis, I really want to read it now! I love it when a book focuses on friendships since I know that I can relate to it.

The cover is spectacular. After reading the synopsis, I’m definitely reading this book! 🙂

  19. Fantasy Angel says:

I like the cover however I don’t believe it totally gives me an idea of what the book is about. On the flip side, the synopsis of the book definitely makes me want to read the book.

  20. Jennifer T says:

That’s an interesting cover with the heart shape. The blurb is intriguing, a story about friendship.

  21. Susan T. says:

There is nothing worse than breaking up with a BFF! The cover and synopsis remind me so much of high school and how awful it was to lose a friend.

  22. Julie Gray says:

This is just my kind of YA novel. My youngest daughter is a reluctant reader and I think she will just LOVE this story about friendship. The cover captures your attention and makes you want to read the book.

  23. Melanie says:

The cover looks awsome and the synopsis sounds interesting

  24. This is really interesting. I have a BFF for seven years, we’ve encountered problems and quarrels but not that of a big deal to the both of us. Because of busy schedules and lack of time to communicate with one another, I even thought of breaking up with my BFF. So I got intrigued with the story of this book, what happened to them and their friendship? I’ve always wanted to read a book that discuss this kind of issue.

And thanks for the chance! x

  25. Ashley says:

The cover is amazing! And this story sounds great, gripping.

  26. Pamela L. says:

So bold and pink!! I’m curious about the intriguing storyline.

  27. daja says:

I love the cover and how the heart has been ripped open from the inside out. It kind of feeds fuel to the synopsis and the whole point of “Best friends can make the worst enemies”. You can go from believing in someone to them turning there back on you. The whole idea of this book peeks my interests and I would love to see how the characters deal and react to the situation at hand.

  28. emma says:

i love the front cover because it looks like a photograph – makes everything more realistic!!
plus it kinda foreshadows what the plot’s about… the whole highschool cliche thing going on with the blank paper and tape, and then a heart torn from the centre!! the breaking-apart of two best friends 🙁 can’t wait to read it!!

  29. Kailee says:

I absolutely love the cover, It’s beautiful and really suits the synopsis. I’m a sucker for highschool stories and this one looks like it would be done right. I am so excited for this novel and to learn more about Catherine Lo as an author.

  30. Catherine says:

Most relationships, especially ones developed at a young age, eventually run their course. The idea of dissecting the different stages of how a relationship ends is so intriguing to me. And of course the cover is gorgeous!

  31. M'kaela Rogers says:

This book gives me the feels, on my watch list.

  32. Magdalena says:

The cover looks amazing and the synopsis is very interesting!

  33. Nickole says:

I love the cover. This is the cover that when I walk in a bookstore and saw it, wouldimmediately piquemy interest. Same with the synopsis, you just gotta know what will happen! So I’m excited.
