“Water!: Why Every Drop Counts and How You Can Start Making Waves to Protect It” by Lisa M. Gerry contains an introduction along with seven chapters that detail everything from the most important water issues to the many uses of water, water pollution, things readers can do to combat climate change, facts about oceans, and even a poem about water to wrap up the book. The index at the back of the book also makes it easy to find some of the facts that stand out as more interesting to any lovers of water who read the book.

Vibrant, full page photographs and images clarify the points made within the chapters, and statistics, as well as listings throughout the pages, make it easier to engage with what is being presented. In Chapter 4, it states that “There are around eight billion people living on Earth, and we all need water to survive, which makes water one of the world’s most precious resources.” It goes on to say that only about 2.5% of the planet’s freshwater is actually available for humans to use. Ensuring that information like this doesn’t go by the wayside and stays present in people’s minds is of utmost importance to helping the planet and making sure that the title of the book lives up to its name about every drop of water counting.

One of the last pages of the book provides a list of 15 things one can do to become a water warrior, including, but not at all limited to, finding out where the water in one’s home comes from, having plumbing inspected for leaks, capturing rainwater to water household plants, using less plastic, and so much more. Anyone with interest in learning about water and/or helping the environment will find this book inspiring.
