Keeper of the Lost Cities is a huge series that encompasses a ton of info and pages in each novel; this graphic novel is just the first part of book one. The author tells you this is not a word-for-word of the original book from the series. You get a sense of the plot instead, but you also get what makes graphic novels so popular:
Illustrations.
Action sequences that jump off the page.
Visual representations of scenes you saw in your head are now on the page.
Graphic novels are hugely popular with middle-grade readers, and not everyone wants to jump into a 700-page book; with this version, you get the taste that might jump you into the novel. Shannon Messenger has done herself a huge favor by taking this project on and will probably gain a whole new crowd of readers who will want to know the entire story, though this is only the first half. You also get excellent bonus content that shows you how to jump-start your interpretation of a graphic novel and how to draw your characters from this or another series.
