Before this book I wasn't good at reading; but afterward, my hands couldn't find another book fast enough. This fantasy of a boy and his sudden surge into the magical world is GREAT!

Every kid knows that somewhere inside them is a wanting of what the famous Harry Potter experiences at Hogwarts school.

Harry Potter and the Scorers Stone is the first book in J.K. Rowlings classic seven book series. In this first installment we meet Harry, a young orphaned, English boy, who lives in the cupboard of the Dursleys, his aunt and uncle. It's a miserable sort of life, until he finds out that a certain Hogwarts School of Wizardry wants him to enroll. It turns out that his parents were wizards, who died trying to save his life, and that he's rather a celebrity in the secretive world of the wizards. The book describes his first year at the school, eating magic sweets, collecting cards of famous wizards, playing Quidditch (a complicated wizard sport played on flying broomsticks), getting house points, and solving a mystery, getting in a lot of trouble while he's at it. He makes friends, discovers enemies and encounters many creatures from mythology on the way (centaurs, unicorns, goblins, etc).

While the later books in the series are satisfying because they are long, complex epics, the first book in the Harry Potter series "The Sorcerer's Stone" is sort of like hot chocolate in winter. It's warm, cozy, sweet, and just so good. It's clearly evident why this book launched the Harry Potter franchise off from the ground, and why it is different from all other modern fantasy. Harry Potter is just on a whole different level.

One can tell that J. K. Rowling wrote this book with the entire series in mind. She already knew what would happen in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and the yet-to-be-released 7th book. That is apparent from the narration, the way the characters talk, the things they say, and the symbolism of the events that take place. Not only is this a very smart book, it is also entertaining beyond compare to any other series.

This book goes down as a modern classic. That is simply undeniable.

I must be about the hundredth plus one person to have written a review for this book! But who can blame me? I'm sure it's safe to say that very few people have read this one-of-a kind novel and NOT been captivated by it.

It is difficult to find the right words just to describe how good this book was and is; it was the book that started a universal need for more. JK Rowling's infamous Harry Potter series began in this very book which introduces to the world the boy who lived; Harry Potter. As a toddler, he witnessed the death of his parents as the dark lord Voldemort pointed his wand and hissed an unforgivable curse. Thirteen years later, he discovers his magical roots and begins his long journey at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

This enchanting story is like a potion brewed with a tablespoon of excitement, a pinch of mystery and a cup of suspense. If for some strange reason you haven't had the chance to bury your head in this book, do it soon! Highly recommended for EVERYONE!

First, I saw the movie. I enjoyed it so much I decided to read the book :
And then, surprise ! The book is 100 times greater !
I won't sum up the story, because some people did it before, but I will only say that even if I don't appreaciate the story in itself for personnal reasons, the writing is fantastic !

Rowling invented a whole world that you always are glad to meet.

I have read all three of the Harry Potter books and I have to say I can't wait for the next one to be released. They were excellent. I purchased them to read to my daughter and realized she is still to young, but then I couldn't put the book down myself. I would recommend these books for not only older children but for adults as well. Bravo to J.K. Rowling for an excellent series.
