This one is definately not number one in the series but it is not bad. Besides you have to read it to get to the rest of the amazing books of Lemoney Snicket. Read it to get on to number three but enjoy it all the same. What are you waiting for silly, go read it. Duh!!!

Just as The Bad Beginning, Snicket has created another semi-comical tale of the orphans' second guardian, Uncle Monty, whom is obsessed with the bizarre world of odd creatures.

beside this strange shell, the children enjoy his company and profession. Unfortunately, their craving foe finds their location and returns to his plotting ways.

Uncle Monty seemed to be the answer and the Baudeliars seemed happy. Unfortunatly, Count Olaf caught up with them again and as usual he befriends the guardian of the orphans. Pretending to be an assistant with a large knife and a huge suitcase with a large lock on it he weaves his way into Uncle Monty's trust and caring. Only to turn around and kill him.
This book was truly a work of art. Mr. Lemony Snicket really out did himself this time. From cover to cover you heard about the deception, betrayel, love, caring, and the many feelings of the characters in this book. Must read. This is probably the best one in the whole series.

I thought it was an okay book. I would recomend it to people who don't usually like to read or people who need something to read but think they've read everything. I would read again too.

Montgumery,Montgumery, the three orphans new guardian
has taken such good care of them...but will it last?
How long before the EVIL Count Olaf appears?
Read and find out for yourselfe.

In the second book of the series I still had a difficult time with the writing style. I want to like it, I understand that the book is targeted towards children and not adults. I just have a hard time believing that even children would have a difficult time with some of these words Snicket takes the effort to explain. And with every other bit of dialogue being a definition and someone angrily saying “I know what _____ means!” It can become a tiresome read.

But once again despite my disdain, the word disdain here means contempt, for the writing style of Lemony Snicket I find myself wanting the read the next book in the series and see where it takes the Baudelaire orphans. And I believe I will continue on with the series for now, but I feel that at some point the repetitive jokes and constant definitions will be too annoying. It’s a shame, behind those annoyances lies a great kids story.
