What I liked:
The Bigfoot Queen is the third book in a series about a tribe called the Yare. Don't worry if you did not pick up the first two books in the series when they came out. The author does an incredible job of weaving the previous two books into this final book so you are all up to speed on the events. I thoroughly enjoy this terrific tale that encompasses discussions about bullying and the difficulties people who are different face in a world that doesn't like different. I especially want the fact that this is about Bigfoot, so if you are a big foot believer or nonbeliever, you enjoy the focus of friendship, loyalty, and acceptance with a bit of fantasy humor mixed in.
Final Verdict:
Kids live in this unbelievable world, and we, as adults, know they face these issues of self-confidence, bullying, and not fitting in regularly. We tell them to embrace what makes them unique and stand out, but a book hits them on another level and gives them a safe place to think about these big topics in these make-believe worlds. Books allow kids to see themselves and their characters in the same situations they face and may also give them a way to process them. Books offer the best place to confront fears and challenges cause they can close the book and walk away if need be. Real life does not have that option.
