Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is, of course, by J.K. Rowling. in my opinion, it is the best book in the series so far. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are definitely growing up, and in doing so, they are discovering new magical talents, romance, and loss, the elements that I believe make the book so great.
Actually, Harry Potter and the Half-Bloos Prince started out extremely slowly, and i didn't feel that it picked up until about page 150 or so. It especially got better when the crew got to Hogwarts, where all the adventures began.
I would recommend this book to boys and girls ages 12 and up. The other books in the series were probably appropriate for younger readers, but Harry Potter and the Half-Blood prince deals with some more mature elements (see above) that kids younger than twelve might not be interested in. All in all, this was a FANTASTIC book. Now I am chomping at the bit for the next one....
