Stevie and Susan Carol are at it again in the third installment of John Feinsteins sports mysteries (Last Shot: A Final Four Mystery and Vanishing Act: Mystery at the U.S. Open). Also back are Bobby and Tamara, their newspaper reporter mentors. Famous from their mystery solving activities at the Final Four and the U.S. Open, Stevie and Susan Carol have been asked to host a TV sports show. Although, reasonably successful, Stevie was replaced right before he and Susan Carol were to go to the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. He just didnt have the required star power.

Bobby Kelleher, sports reporter for the Washington Herald, comes to the rescue and gets Stevie a Super Bowl assignment for the paper. So Stevie is Indianapolis bound after all, promising not to get into any trouble, which we all know is impossible.

At one of the many Super Bowl galas, a team doctor flirts with Susan Carol, who looks older than her fourteen years. To impress her, he mentions that several members of the Dreams tested positive for steroids and the results were covered up, allowing the players to play in the upcoming game. Susan Carol runs to Stevie with the news and the action begins. True to Feinstein form, there is the honest player struggling to do whats right, the abrasive team owner who threatens everyone, a kidnapping, and more. The first half of the book sets the stage for the action in the second half.

It is easy to get addicted to Feinsteins mysteries. There is action, sports, celebrities and the love interest between Stevie and Susan Carol. (He gets quite jealous when he thinks of Susan Carol working with his cute TV show replacement.) Good timing&I read the book right before Super Bowl XLII but you can read it any time and its still fun. Anyone who likes sports and mysteries is in for a treat. Its also a good alternative to Mike Lupicas sports books, so if youre a Lupica fan, try Feinstein. Happy reading.
