'A long Way from Chicago' is a book for ages 8 to 110. It was full of innocence that made the book sweet and funny at the same time. For instance, the time they snuck on to the sheriff's private land and saw him drunk with his friend. The grandma was the funniest character I have ever read about in a book. In the book, you realize what a crook she is (the pie contest) but you can't help but love her. Over all, this book is clean, funny, and captivating. It's a book you cna't help but love.

The book Long Way from Chicago was a very interesting novel that had many different elements that took place. Some of the events were more significant that others such as the time grandma lied to get a dead corpses wake to be hosted at her house an many others. The main three points of the book are that of the grandmas feelings and her lying and cheating, how Mary Alice and Joey feels about that, and how the towns people feel about grandma.
Grandma lies several times during this novel such as when she thought that the Cowgill brothers were blowing up her mail box. She caught a rat and when she knew they would sneak into her house. Then she showed the milk with the rat into the Cowgill dairy farm milk and showed it to the father of them. While lying she said that they did it on purpose. She cheats by telling others that she is to busy to do things when she really is. Also she cheats others out of money all of the time.
Mary Alice feels upset and she doesnt like the way that her Grandma does things. She also is turning into her Grandma as she gets older; she lies a bit and also tries to connive her way out of the situations. Mary Alice likes to listen to Grandma but she doesnt like the way she does every thing.
Joey feels the same way mostly but some of the situations. The most passionate thing he feels is about getting very close to breaking the law; like when his Grandma stole the boat and went to look out for the trap she had put in the water several years earlier. They both think mainly the same about grandma & shes as loony as they come.
The towns people feel very elite about Grandma. Many feel that she really is just off her rocker and is so super crazy. Many people think she is just loosing her mind. There are many different opinions on Grandma, but if you want a true honest opinion youre going to have to read it your self.
I feel that the book was very well written and it told the story is a very acknowledgeable one that should be admired by many people. I feel as though this book will be around for a very long time and will be acknowledged by many generations to come.
The book Long Way from Chicago is a very interesting novel for those many reasons.

Everyone has memories of visiting grandma's house. This story is unlike any other. Two children are sent to their grandmothers house. During the start of the Great Depression. They are wary of their grandmother at first. Finding her very weird and scary. She is not like other grandmothers. She is of a wild nature. She is proud of her heritage and won't allow anyone to belittle her. She sets out on a quest to show her city slicker grand children. The ways of an old country girl. I love the book and the sequel as well. It's like visiting grandma yourself.

Richard Peck wrote a wonderful story about two kids who visit their grandmother every summer. The book contains many funny scenes that will make the reader laugh out loud. It includes a colorful character in Grandma Dowdy, even though she tends to be rather dishonest.

I think a Long Way from Chicago is a really great book. You would think that it is boring because it has a lot of pages per chapter, but, I think it is exiting because a lot of things happen in each chapter. My favriote chapter is troop train even though it is about three pages long.It was exiting because Joey was going to world war 2 and the train was going by Grandmas house and Grandma was waving to the train because she knew that Joey was on the troop train. This book will be a great book no matter how old it gets. I would recomend this book to middle schoolers that love to read books.

THis book is about to siblings Joey and Mary Alice who go to visit there odd Grandma in Illianois. This place might seem like a dull area but wait until you see what Joey and Mary encounter. Tresspassing, Corpse, Cheating, Fishing, Ghosts, Scam, and even even flying. I liked this book since it gives you a harty laugh and Grandma just cracks you up. Its a type of an adventurous book. This book is for kids probably above 6 for some of the scary content and maybe even for old people who want to feel the old days again. (Some content is funny while others are sick but overall its a well-written book.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a town where everyone knows your name and every detail in your life? Well the two main charaters in this book have to live with their "crazy" Grandmother for a summer. This book shows us that you truly can not judge a vook by its cover. The children truly find out what a great person there Grandmother truly is, but not before a fun filled yet crazy summer in a crazy town.
