Sarah lives a wealthy life as a child and is never denied anything her heart desires.

However, her father dies, and through many unfortunate setbacks she's left orphaned and penniless.

What would a normal girl do? Snap back at everyone else. Retreat into herself. Become sulky and ill mannered. But Sarah Crewe is exemplary, and above it all.

Only a little girl, she still manages to behave better than any one of us would in the circumstances. She never lets herself stop believing she's a princess. She uses this as a way to hold onto her values and stay the kindhearted person she is, no matter how badly the other girls at the boarding school may treat her. She's the same as she was before, unchanged except for living as a servant with but one set of clothes and a doll to her name.

Will her fairy godmother come to the rescue, or will the villainous headmistress never relinquish her hold on Sarah? Is Sarah really a princess, or only in her mind?

This book is a classic and deserves to be read!
