It was an absolutely amazing book, I recommend it to all people of all ages. It's a real page-turner, I wouldn't (or couldn't) put it down unless forced to. The plot is engaging, the characters are charming and witty, and there's always that touch of humor to make you laugh. A wonderful start to the series!

Hiding the truth from everyone, mingling with rogues, seperation from all those close, venturing into and unknown and sometimes scary world. Indeed, Alanna is a very brave girl. But also very ambitious.

This is one of my favourite books. It is a story about a girl called Alanna who swaps places with her twin brother Thom so that she can become a knight. She befriends the Prince and other people like a thief called George. It is set in medieval times and is quite entralling.

This book is a good intro. to a captivating series. It takes place in an imaginary world in the land of Tortall. It is about a young girl switching places with her slightly egotistical twin brother so he can learn magic and she can become a knight. Her name is Alanna

OMG! This book was cool. It's all about her page years, when she first decided to embrace her power and become a knight. I always wondered how no one noticed she wasn't a guy. It was obvious. She started out weak and stuff, but then she got better and she showed those guys that even though she was small, she could still kick butt. Tamora Pierce became one of my fave authors for this one book alone, because I knew if I like this I would like her other books, even though it was only the ones about Tortall.

Meet Alana of Trebond, whose dream is to become a the lady knight of the century. She is going to the king's court to become one. Did I mention that the story takes place in the early middle ages where women are not allowed to become knights? Well back to the point, Alana disgiuses as her twiiiiin brother Alan.
In the palace she makes friends with prince Jonathan and enemies with his over charming unlce, Duke Roger.

Alanna:The First Adventure is a wonderful novel for young women who are searching for themselves. It describes a pre-teen girl, Alanna of Trebond, who wants direction in her life. She doesn't want to become an old woman on her spinning wheel or an enchantress. So, Thom, her twin brother, and herself trade places. She goes to become a knight, disguised as a boy, Alan. Meanwhile, Thom goes to a monastery to become a magician. While in training, Alan discovers that it isn't easy, but she will fight for her knighthood. She becomes friends with many boys, Gary, Myles, and even the prince of Tortall, Jonathan. Alanna will have fun, become scared, and fiercely combat with evil. Meet Alanna or "Alan" in Alanna: The First Adventure.

I loved Alanna. She was courageous, brave, and strong. She tries hard to fairly be inducted into this community. She is a normal girl being a normal boy. Any young adult girl will love this novel. I give it 5 stars!

I am absolutely suprised that Alanna hasn't had more reviews! It (in my opinion--for what that counts as since I am biased and have devoted myself to Ms. Pierce's books--it is one of the greatest YA books that I have read). Of course, if you are undeniably devoted to Alanna after reading the first, (it's a given that you will read the first, of course!) you have to read the rest, which in order go from:
Alanna: The First Adventure
In the Hands of the Goddess
The Woman who Rides Like a Man
Lioness Rampant
Wild Magic
Wolf-Speaker
The Emperor Mage
In the Realms of the Gods
First Test
Page
Squire
Lady Knight (Coming out in 2002
And if you have younger sisters or brothers, they might be interested in The Circle of Magic series. Believe me, I've read these books so many times and have seen so many good ratings for her books that you won't (believe me, WON'T) want to just pass these wondrous books up!!
