Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is about Harry's third year at Hogwarts. Harry is once again back with his aunt and uncle for the summer, but there is another added annoyance for Harry. His aunt Marge, his uncles sister, is coming over for a weeks stay. Third years and over at Hogwarts are sometimes allowed to visit the all magic villiage of Hogsmead and Harry needs his permission slip formed, but his uncle says he will only sign it if he behaves while his aunt Marge is there. Harry was able to control his temper through his aunt making fun of everything about him and insulting his parents just until the night before she was to leave. After her insulting his father, Harry was unable to control his feelings and caused his aunt to inflate so much that she was lifted from the ground and began floating away. Before his aunt and uncle could stop him, Harry runs upstairs and collects all his clothes and school things in his trunk and leaves.

After getting a few streets away, Harry decided to sit down on the curb and try to sort out what to do. He just performed illegal magic for the second time and would surely be expelled from Hogwarts. Just when he was thinking this he noticed something on the side of a garage across the street and got his wand out and got up to get a better look. He then noticed that it was a large black dog. Harry took a step backward then fell to the ground. Luckily he had because a triple decker bus with "The Knight Bus" was written across it's front. The conductor told him the Knight Bus was transport for the stranded witch or wizard. So Harry had them take him to the Leaky Cauldron in London, the opening to Diagon Alley.

When he arrived Harry was shocked to see that the Minister of Magic was waiting for him. But he was even more shocked to learn that he was not in trouble for the accident and that everything was sorted out at his house. But that the Minister was worried for his safety. A convict from the wizarding prison, Azkaban had escaped. Harry wasn't sure why the Minister was so worried specifically for his safety, but was thankful he wasn't in trouble. Harry was going to stay at the Leaky Cauldron with the Weasleys until school started. While Harry was downstairs in the dining room of the Leaky Cauldron looking for something for Ron he had heard Mr. and Mrs. Weasley arguing about whether or not to tell Harry that the convict was indeed after Harry.

Harry returned to school in September. His friend Hagrid had become a teacher at Hogwarts. He had a pretty good year until near the end, considering that Ron and Hermione were bickering nearly the whole time about her cat trying to eat his rat. But at the end, Ron takes a different view between the whole conflict with the cat and the rat.
