33 Things Every Girl Should Know: Stories, Songs, Poems, and Smart Talk by 33 Extraordinary Women
The sub-title of this book is "From Suffragettes to Skirt Lengths to the E.R.A." and it follows through on that promise. The book is full of details about some of the most prominent women in American history, including some that you've probably never heard of. Some of the women covered include Abigail Adams, Coline Jenkins-Sahlin, and Billie Jean King.
Now, I don't want you to think of this as a dusty, dry book full of facts and figures. It isn't like that at all. With numerous illustrations, different typefaces and pictures, this book is a grabbing read.
It is a great book to just pick up and flip to a page. You'll learn something every time. For instance, Mary McLeod Bethune had only $1.50 to her name when she started a school for African American girls in Daytona Beach. That school is still in existence today, though it has changed with the times.
Give this book to a young girl and better yet, keep a copy for yourself too. We all need to be reminded where we have come from every now and then.
This is a very good book. I think all girls should read this. I think it would be a good gift for any girl. Or any boy I guess who is interested in women's history. I recomend it to every one. Happy Reading!
