The Grapes of Wrath
This book is unforgettable. Can you remember exactly what happened in any book that you read a few years back, probably not. This book, however, is one that will take over your thoughts. You will finally be exposed to the real world which deals with poverty, death, and the all-around unfortunate. That is why I love this book, even though it is non-fiction, it is still very real. John Steinbeck opens up your eyes to the way life for many of Americas people was like back in the early twentieth century. The book deals with a large migrant family, which decides to travel across America to look simply for work. Also, youre not going to be dealing with one of those books that everyone is happy in the end, in the book many of the family members die on the road. There are not many happy moments in the book, one of the main characters dreams is even sadly crushed in the end. Steinbeck makes you feel as though you are one of the family too, which creates a desire of knowledge of the familys future. You feel happy when they do nervous and even sad when they do too. Unfortunately, I feel as though most of the characters have a very similar personality, with the exact same goals and desires. They also use the exact same style of speech, which may become confusing. However there are definitely leaders and followers, the leaders are the ones with the money, which is sad but very true. This book is great because it is always changing. The location constantly changes frequently, and relatively speaking the amount of main and secondary characters changes rapidly. You always hear people reminding you to be thankful for what you own, well this book tells you it in a very unique way which will transform you. I could not think of one person who would not enjoy this classic. This story will open up some emotions and feelings stored inside you that you never even knew you had.
