Getting Lost With Boys
This was the first Hailey Abott book I've read, and I would really like to read more of her books. Cordelia and Jake are a perfect couple, but it was surprising to me how at first they hated each other, and I never expected they would fall for each other. This story teaches you to go for what you really want, and not what others want you to do.
Cordelia is a neat freak. Her entire life is organized and she has a plan for everything. That way, nothing can ever go wrong. So, when her sister's ex (one of many) volunteers to drive her to Eureka to spend the summer with her sister, she accepts (somewhat reluctantly) and begins planning. This is when things start to go astray. The ex, Jake, is not organized. He is, in fact, obnoxious, always late, and lazy. Not Cordelia's favorite things. He is the complete opposite of Cordelia's perfect boyfriend, Paul... so why does she feel the way she does when she is with Jake. If he's so horrible, why does being with him feel so right (and exhausting). Who is Cordelia becoming... and what does it all mean?
This book was one of my favorites. If you like romantic young adult fiction then this book is for you. It would probably have a rating of PG-13; it has some teenage content, but doesn't go into too much detail so some younger kids could read it. The main character, Cordelia was very realistic; her flaws seemed to make her more loveable. I couldn't help but feel like I was there in that junky car with Cordelia and Jake. I felt everything that Cordelia did... there is no better writing than that. This book is going straight to my sister so we can rant about Jake's perfection and how we are totally jealous of Cordelia. Though this book was a quick read, it's good enough to read over and over again. Getting Lost With Boys reminded me of books by Sarah Dessen, Kate Brian, and Meg Cabot, which basically means that it was amazing. Hailey Abbots is an author to look out for. This book is definately a guilty pleasure and should be read immediately. Seriously, right now. So you better be moving towards the library or bookstore...
