Dies the Fire (Emberverse #1)
I found this book at my local library and thought it looked pretty good. The basic story is that something happens on the east coast of the US that causes all modern equipment (cars, guns, airplanes, anything electrical, gunpowder, phones, etc.) to stop working. There are two main characters in the book, and each has his and her own story.
The male character is in a plane when the Change happens, while the woman is at her friend's pub. The reader is immediately thrown into the chaos in which the characters have to survive which lasts until the end of the book.
While this book is very action packed and suspenseful, I was disappointed with the sheer craziness yet irony of it all. Within two weeks of the Change a huge percent of the population dies from disease (yet the main charcter happens to have a bunch of medicne set aside) that breaks out and within a month new leaders declare war within the states (and the majority of surivors just happen to know sword combat from going to medieval faires). I had a very hard time thinking that the US would fall apart in such a short amount of time and that so many people would be so well prepared. The author also has a huge amount of typos that was very distracting.
Overall is wasn't just a horrible book, but not something I would recommend to someone. The idea behind it was pretty good...it was just poorly executed!
