In this creative retelling of the classic A Christmas Carol, Ben's longtime girlfriend, Marly, has just died of cancer. A Valentine's Day rolls along, Ben is still in the stages of denial and can't accept the fact that he's living without his love. He cuts himself off from his friends and is mean to everyone else.
When he gets a warning from Marly about his behavior, he gets visits from 3 ghosts, the past, the present and the future. As he travels with each one, he sees how his life with Marly was, how he's living in the present and the sinister outcome of his future if he is unwilling to change.
I thought that this book was pretty good. I've never read a retelling of a story that was close to a the original yet adds a new twist to the story. The pictures were an added bonus as well. Marly's Ghost is not a light story, but is something that is worth thinking about and makes you understand the value of love.
