In letters to her cousin, a young Jewish girl talks about her family's flight from Russia in 1919 and her own experiences when she must be left in Belgium for a while when the others emigrate to America.
This was such a sad book but it made me start to enjoy my life and I think that everyone needs to read a book like this!
Rifka, a female teenager, travels with her large family to try get into the United States. On her way she falls into some dangerous situations. She is left behind by herself in a country unknown to her because of head lice, and with that experiences the generousity of others and eating a banana for the first time. This book will make you feel grateful for the life you already have.
