After everything that went down at Steele House, Hendricks just wants her life to return to normal. Prom is coming up and the school is in full preparation mode. Hendricks tries to pitch in, to mimic her best friend Portia's enthusiasm, but the events of the last few months still haunt her. Steele House. Raven. Eddie.
Hendricks believes Eddie is still out there. She just has to find a way to reach him. Together with her friends, she forms a circle of seven and attempts to summon his spirit. Suddenly things start happening again. Flickering lights in the school library. Mysterious girls roaming the halls. The same song playing on a loop wherever she goes.
It all culminates in a violent attack and Hendricks realizes what they summoned may not be Eddie at all. The one thing she does know is that Steele House was only the beginning. And whatever they've unleashed is more dangerous than anything they've ever seen before.
What worked: Wow, this story had me right from the first page. Creepy, spooky horror where a spell goes terribly wrong.
This sequel is even better than the first book. Unfriended meets The Haunting of Hill House. Hendricks tries to be normal, but can't get Eddie out of her mind. She misses him something fierce. She really wants to like Connor, the cute guy in town, but she can't. The story really picks up when she tries to do a spell with some of her friends. Instead of Eddie, the spell brings back an evil presence that goes after her friend Portia.
Great pacing, tension throughout. The friendship of Hendricks and Portia is put to the test when the spirit actually does harm. Portia feels it's Eddie as she admits she bullied him when he was alive. This puts a wedge in their friendship.
There's so many vivid descriptions that aren't over the top and not too gruesome. **Unless you get squeamish over tons of undead wasps.
Gritty, dark horror story where summoning a spirit might in fact unleash a dangerous, evil presence. Perfect for fans of horror and those not afraid to read darker tales.
2. Better than the first book!
