Losing Christina: Fog
i have to admit, of all the books by caroline b. cooney, this one is not the best. i still enjoyed it very much though and it is intriging to begin with. 13 year old christina is from a small island. when the children their reach that age the go to the main land and stay in the shevington inn. Mr. and Mrs. Shevington are weird and Christina is completely convinced that they are out to get her. Not only that but her friend Anya, who also stays with the Shevingtons, s going crazy!
Christina has lived all her life on Burning Fog Island, a small island off the coast of Maine. She is now entering 7th grade, and she has to go to the mainland because there is no school on her island to go to. She, all with Anya, Michael and Benjamin, are boarding with the Shevvingtons. Mr. Shevvington is the principal and Mrs. Shevvington is the 7th grade english teacher. Even before they leave, Christina notices that Anya is acting weird. She becomes terrified of the sea. Right before they board the ferry, they go inside the souvinier shop to buy posters. Christina doesn't buy one, but the owner forces one into her hand to take for free.
During her stay with the Shevvingtons, Christina is rude. She belives that they are trying to kill Anya and her. She hears strange noises, the scene of the poster keeps changing and even though they are far above the tide, a piece of seaweed is plastered on their window. One night, Anya is trying to jump out the window, but Christina tries to pull her back to save her. The Shevvingtons come in and accuse her of trying to kill Anya. Soon, Anya has no emotions, she quits school, loses her boyfriend, so basically she loses her soul.
One night, there is a big storm coming. Anya and Christina are locked in the house. When Christina realizes that Anya isn't there, she makes a big fuss. She sees Anya going towards the bridge, where she will climb down to meet the ocean. She tells the Shevvingtons to call 911, but they just laugh. Christina tells her to wait and she jumps out of the window to escape from the house. She catches up with Anya and Anya starts to climb down. That's when the tide comes in.
You have to read the book to find the ending. I thought that this book was really good. It is part of a trilogy and it is a reprint. The book is for mystery lovers. It's not like a traditional mystery though. When you finish the book, it leaves you wanting to know more about Christina and the Shevvingtons. This is a great book to pick up if you don't have anything else to read.
