Honey, Baby, Sweetheart
It's almost as good as a Sarah Dessen book, but not quite there.
Ruby is known as 'The Quiet Girl'. But that one summer before her senior year she changes as she meets Travis Becker. Gorgeous, rich, and dangerous Travis lets Ruby a chance to be someone else. Someone who is reckless and takes risks.
This novel is actually focused on three different loves (and heartbreaks): Ruby and Travis, Ruby's mother while her Ruby's father comes back to visit, and last (sweetest of all), an elderly lady in Ruby's mother's book club who is seeking her past sweetheart.
Read the book to find out what exactly happens!!!
In Honey, Baby, Sweetheart, good girl Ruby has fallen for Travis Becker. Travis is the complete opposite from Ruby, rich, adventurous, and mysterious. Slowly, Ruby is pulled into his world, being forced to do things against her will. When one of Traviss schemes goes too far, Ruby ditches him, but she has already fallen for him.
Rubys mother, Ann, sees her, and knows what shes going through. Rubys father, Chip, left Ann in hopes of advancing his performing career. But Ann has still been hoping that one day, Chip would return home. Instead, on a trip to visit his children, Chip announces that he and his girlfriend were expecting a baby.
With Ruby having problems with her love life, Ann brings her to a book club that she runs for seniors at the local library. Ruby begins to get pulled in the drama of seniors. The seniors are reading Life Times Two, a book by Charles Whitney. They soon discover that the main character of the story is one of their club members. Lillian, who has been impaired by a stroke, is still in love with Charles. The mission of the book club soon becomes to reunite the long lost couple. The plan begins with a kidnapping from a nursing home, where Lillians daughters stuck her. They then travel from Oregon to California in an effort to return Lillian to her rightful home. Its a race against time because Lillians daughters are completely against her reuniting with Charles. When the group encounters a car problem, they have to get themselves out of a huge mess before Lillians daughters find her and take her back to Oregon.
I thought that this book was really cute. It took me a while to get into the story in the beginning. I thought that the story between Ruby and Travis would keep me interested, but it was actually the story of Lillian and Charles that made the story exciting. Life Times Two seems like such a good classic book, too bad its only made up! The parts with the senior citizens was so amusing and cute that Honey, Baby, Sweetheart is a book definitely worth reading.
