‘What About the Universe: An Illustrated Q&A Book for Kids’ by Bertrand Fichou, illustrated by Pascal Lemaitre, asks the questions all kids (and even adults!) have about the universe and its infinite wonder. From how planets and stars get their names to learning exactly what the Milky Way is (no, not just a candy bar!), to learning about the first people and animals in space, what the weather is like out there, how stars are born, and so much more, there is really something to fascinate even the most cynical reader. Outer space is so far away and mysterious, and this book sheds light on some of those mysteries in ways that help readers begin to grasp some of the innermost intricacies of just what’s out there.

There is even the question of whether time travel is possible and whether humans may one day be able to live on other planets. Cute illustrations dot the pages, ensuring that readers—both young and old alike—will be able to connect with the words that flow through the pages. It’s great to see amazing facts, such as how the most powerful telescopes can see galaxies more than 10 billion light-years away, showing that our galaxy is just one piece of the amazingly large puzzle that is our universe.

With a table of contents with more than 30 questions and a glossary to lead the book off, along with discussion of constellations, stars of astronomy including Albert Einstein and Edwin Hubble, and an index to round the book out, ‘What About the Universe’ touches on the beauty of the unknown and how to harness the knowledge you have and use it to propel you to greater heights with the new knowledge you’ll learn as you engage with the pages of this book that not only contains simple explanations, but entertaining questions.
