Earthlings come in all shapes and sizes in this gentle board book about caring for the planet we call home.

We are Earthlings!
We laugh. We play. We love.
We may not all look alike,
or breathe alike,
or sleep alike.
But we all live here, on Earth.

From the smallest ant to the largest whale, from a newborn baby to a grandparent, we are all Earthlings. And since we all live on Earth, we must take care of it, too. But how? We can help it grow. We can keep it clean. We can give it love.

The shape of this board book invites little hands to engage with a first introduction to the care of our Earth. It has representation from a wide variety of humans and animals to share the idea that we are all earthlings and we all share common elements even if how we do things is different. At times the language is short and simple which is perfect for younger audiences to understand. Then there are large concepts such as recycling that a child can grow into with repeated readings for deeper understanding.
Final Verdict: The language and concepts are mixed. Some of it a young child could understand, but other words such as community, habitat, water quality, and wildlife rescue would not be inherent in a younger child’s vocabulary and it would take a lot of background knowledge and discussion for them to sit down and understand the story during those parts. This is not necessarily a problem because it would allow the book to age with the child and invite repeated readings for the child to fully grasp the full extent of the book. This book has a beautiful message conveying that we are all earthlings and we should protect our planet. It is worth a read for older preschool children, especially in tangent with lessons diving deeper into the book ideas and words used in the book on how to protect our Earth.
