Now "The Vampire Diaries" is one of my favorite tv shows. I recently was introduced to it by my friend and I have been binge watching it for months. Recently, I discovered the show was loosely based off a book series. Usually I read the book before the adaption, but I decided to make an exception since I love this tv show so much. That was a mistake...

The book is nothing like I expected. For starters, the characters aren't even the same people as the show; and when I mean they aren't the same, I mean names, descriptions, and personalities. One character I just cannot get over is Elena. Granted, I am not a huge fan of her on the show, but I hate her even more in the book. Pardon my French, but she is a bitch. She treats people like they're minions and her one goal in life is to be with Stefan. She fixates on him and when he is eventually hers, she becomes one of those girlfriends where their boyfriends are their life. To make things even worse, when she discovers he is a vampire, she doesn't freak out like any normal human would have done. No, she tells him to drink her blood... Crazy much?

Overall, this book just made me cringe. Due to the love I have for the show that I would like to remain untainted, I will not be continuing this series.

Hi Guys,
This week, I'm getting the second book in the Chronicles of Nick series, Invincible, I also plan on finishing The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight this week. Speaking of The Vampire Diaries, that is going to be the book review this week. The first omnibus of the Vampire Diaries, The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle, is the first two books of the Vampire Diaries combined into one. These books were actually written in 1991 (so NO it's not a Twilight knock-off lol) and L.J. Smith has also written several other great books for Young Adults that I will be reviewing in the near future. Here is the summary from the back of the book:

Elena: the golden girl, the leader, the one who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: brooding and mysterious, he seems to be the only one who can resist Elena, even as he struggles to protect her from the horrors that haunt his past.

Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him. Determined to have Elena, he'd kill to possess her.

My first impression of this book was that it looked interesting. The cover was great, and I loved the little bit of blood on Stefan's bottom lip, it was a nice touch. I'm not going to lie, I wanted to read the Vampire Diaries only after I saw that they were going to make a show about it on the CW. I'm glad I read the books first because they are so much more different than the tv show. This book is a nice paranormal love story that is compared to twilight, but seeing as how the vampire diaries was written first, twilight should be compared to it. But that's besides the point, I really liked this book series, and it had me up several nights flipping pages violently. I give this first book 4/5 stars, just because it took a little too long to get into the paranormal aspect of it, but besides that I loved it. Check this book series out, and also check out the tv show, it comes on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. on the CW. But only check out the show after you read the books. Haha.
Good Points
Everything was really good about this book.

Review for the Awakening:
This was actually an alright vampire romance book. I didn't expect to like it in the beginning because I immediately saw references to Twilight. I like my book original and unique. However, I did realize that these books were published years ago, wayy before Twilight. That helped soften the blow. Personally I didn't really like most of the characters except for Damon but I do suppose after reading the second installment, that will change. (At least that's what my friend said who recommended it to me.) I do think there is a good story and I'd like to see where it goes.

Review for The Struggle:
This book was just as good as its predecessor, not like its predecessor was fantastic& but as vampire romances go, its decent. I love L. J. Smiths writing, and thats exactly what makes me pick these books up. Shes creative when it comes down to her writing style and her characters. Id also like to point out that Vampire Diaries were first published in 1991 but are recently out again as reprint. These books came out way before this vampire YA fayz. This series isnt a favorite of mine but are a good read for the vampirists and romantics out there.

The Awakening and The Struggle were amazing! They were a lot like
Twilight, however the Vampire Diaries came out a long time before
Twilight. I loved all the characters and the plot. I hated Damon
naturally and loved Stefan. This book had romance, action, and so much
more that made me craving for more. I'm glad my edition had both books,
so I didn't have to have wait for the second book. I can't wait to read
the next two and the next trilogy! My dad is actually working on the
CW's Vampire Diaries show, so that's why I started reading this book.
The show changed a lot of things, but it was pretty good. It seems that
I'm starting to read more  fantasy books with vampires, werewolves, and
faeries, but that genre has so many good books. Anyways I highly
recommend reading these books if you haven't already!

Ideas expressed/message/plot: From back cover: A DEADLY LOVE TRIANGLE. Determined to have Elena, hed kill to possess here.

Favorite character, quotes/lines: Stefan: I definitely wanted him to be with Elena. Elena: I actually liked her, even though I wasnt sure I was going to&. I thought she would be more self-absorbed, but she was actually okay.
When I finished this book I felt: I really, really want the next book! But it isnt out yet& I might even go as far as to say that L.J. Smith is better than Stephanie Meyers! Well, I definitely think her writing skills are better, but her stories might be as well! :s

Other books to read by this Author or theme: The Vampire Diaries: The Fury and Dark Reunion, the Secret Circle books, the Nightworld Omnibuses: 1,2,3

I would recommend this book to: young adult readers, but even older readers. I think anyone can enjoy this book!!

Vampire Diaries is one of my favorite book series. I love Stefan, and I think Elena is great.
I love the way LJane Smith writes, because you feel like if you were there, next to Elena, Bonnie and Meredith, you can know what they think, you cand know how they feel.
The books are easy to read, and will keep you readind and reading until you finish them all.
I also liked a lot the Damon part, he is just irresistible, even when he is the bad guy...
I just love those brothers... all the drama between them, all the mystery
surrounding Stefan and Damon. You have to read them...

The most dangerous love triangle of all.  Two vampire brothers, one good and one evil, are in love with the same girl.  Stefan meets Elena, and instantly falls for her.  But he swears never to go near her because of his dark secret.  On the other hand, Elena has sworn to make Stefan hers or die.

If you loved Twilight by Stephenie Meyers you'll love this book. I find this way more better then the twilight series though. The Vampire Diaries has everything you need to move on from Twilight without being identical. It's a dark romance, adventure and characters you'll undoubtably make teams for.

Vampire Diaries is a book worth reading. Elena is the IT girl at her school. She's got the looks, the clothes, and the friends. Even boys have become a game to her...until she meets Stefan. He is the only boy who has ever turned her down. Desperate to have him at any cost, She launches herself into pursuit. But Stefan has a secret. On top of being a vampire, he also has an evil brother who will stop at nothing to possess Elena. Even if he has to kill her. This book has it all. Vampires, love, and evil. It also have many twists and turns and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I guarantee that you will love it...(of course only if you have a obsessive love for vampire love stories).
