Wren Wheeler has flown five thousand miles across the ocean to discover she’s the worst kind of traveler: the kind who just wants to go home. Her senior-year trip to London was supposed to be life-changing, but by the last day, Wren’s perfectly-planned itinerary is in tatters. There's only one item left to check off: breakfast at The World’s End restaurant. The one thing she can still get right.

The restaurant is closed for renovations―of course―but there's a boy there, too. A very cute boy with a posh British accent who looks remarkably like the errant Prince Theo, on the run from the palace and his controlling mother. When Wren helps him escape a pack of tourists, the Prince scribbles down his number and offers her one favor in return. She doesn’t plan to take him up on it―until she gets to the airport and sees canceled flights and chaos. A comet is approaching Earth, and the world is ending in eight days. Suddenly, that favor could be her only chance to get home to her family before the end of the world.

Wren strikes a bargain with the runaway prince: if she’ll be his bodyguard from London to his family’s compound in Santorini, he can charter her a private jet home in time to say goodbye. Traveling through Europe by boat, train, and accidentally stolen automobile, Wren finds herself drawn to the dryly sarcastic, surprisingly vulnerable Theo. But the Prince has his own agenda, one that could derail both their plans. When life as they know it will be over in days, is it possible to find a happy ending?

THE PRINCE & THE APOCALYPSE is a charming YA contemporary romance/end-of-the-world story. Wren is on a trip to London with her classmates, and she is finally starting to feel better and get back to her itinerary, but her BFF has decided to ditch her for other classmates. She heads to The World's End for breakfast, but finds it closed when she gets there. However, she runs into Prince Theo, next in line for the English crown, who is trying to avoid attention. When he is spotted, she helps him to evade the public. In return, he offers her a favor she can cash in at any time.

Not too long later, Wren finds herself missing her flight home and the dreadful news that the planet is about to be hit by a large asteroid in eight days, which is expected to end the world. Determined to get home and see her family and with all the flights canceled or being full, Wren calls in her favor. Theo asks her to be his bodyguard and help him travel to Santorini, where a private plane can then take her home. Not seeing many other options, Wren agrees, and they set out across Europe in an unexpected trip that leaves them both with so many complicated feelings - made even more complex by the impending doom of the asteroid.

What I loved: Despite being about the end of the world, this story managed to be uplifting and hopeful with plenty of cute and funny moments between Wren and Theo as they travel together. It seems everyone is searching for him, so it takes a lot of effort to keep his identity under wraps. During that time, they really get to know each other, connecting on a deeper level and building a lot of trust very quickly. With the short timeline to get to Santorini and the impending asteroid strike, it really ups the ante on their experiences and growth of their relationship, which feels slow-build even though it's only a matter of days. The level of connection was really strong and grew really well.

The story is told from Wren's perspective, and she was a really compelling main character. Wren has spent her life striving for the perfection she feels that her family needs from her. The end of the world allows her to reevaluate the path she has been on and value her passions, such as photography, more. Her life has felt very rigid and scheduled, and this trip is anything but with lots of readjusting on the fly and being a bit impulsive. Wren begins to experience herself and her desires in a new way through letting go of all these expectations. At the same time, she is really driven by the need to see her family one more time before they go - while also enjoying the journey she is taking to get there.

The romance was really strong, the build was steady with a lot of discussions and really getting to know each other. There was a cliffhanger at the end that suggests that there might be a sequel forthcoming, and I would definitely want to read it and see where their story goes. Themes around family, choices, obligations, mental illness, humanity, trust, and betrayal make this a deeper read as well. That being said, it does have quite a few funny moments that keep it feeling light and sweet overall.

Final verdict: THE PRINCE & THE APOCALYPSE is a charming YA romantic comedy around the end of the world that I would recommend for fans of AMERICAN ROYALS, ROYAL BLOOD, and ALL THAT'S LEFT IN THE WORLD.

Eighteen-year-old Wren's dream British trip ends up turning out like nothing she had planned. Not only is she sick with a virus most of the trip, but she also ends up missing her flight back to the states. She ends up running into a British prince who is fleeing. Add to this a meteor is set to destroy the Earth. What happens next is a high-stake race through five countries in five days to get a private flight back home. Only Wren isn't prepared for how she'll feel toward a runaway Prince.

What worked: Fun, engaging end-of-the-world rom-com. This story has high-stakes action throughout. When readers first meet Wren she's disillusioned with her whole ideal British trip. All she wants is to leave the UK. Then she encounters a fleeing UK prince and the threat of the Earth being destroyed by a comet. They join forces to escape.

Wren's plight is one that is almost enviable. Who wouldn't want to spend your last days with a cute prince? Many things are thrown into their path. But one that they both don't expect is falling for each other.

I enjoyed this humourous at times contemporary rom-com. Wren and Prince Theo's struggle to get out of the UK and get her a way back home to be with her family has lots of twists and turns. I like how Wren tries to stay on task and not fall for the Prince. She's the logical, type A personality that is used to making endless lists. Only what to do to survive an upcoming calamity isn't something she ever thought of!

The chemistry between Wren and Theo is there, even when both of them continue to deny it. And omg on that ending cliffhanger. So NOT FAIR! I'm hoping there is an upcoming sequel!

American Royals meets the end of the world. This high-stake contemporary rom-com is filled with adventure, action, and heart.
Good Points
1. Fun, engaging end-of-the-world rom com
