CATCHING FIRE, the sequel to the fabulous THE HUNGER GAMES, is an equally enthralling, addictive roller-coaster thrill ride. . .

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen has survived her country's brutal reality show, "The Hunger Games," by killing and outlasting other contestants, thanks to her superior survival skills and hunting ability. Of course, Peeta has survived, also, thereby outwitting the Capitol, who expected to see one of the two kill the other. Katniss and Peeta must continue their highly-publicized roles as star-crossed lovers, even though their relationship is faked, at least on Katniss's part (or is it?)

Katniss and Peeta are wealthy celebrities now, who can give their families luxuries and provide necessities for District 12. However, they are in the worst trouble of their lives. By defying the Capitol, they are now under constant threat and scrutiny by officials. Katniss and Peeta are beginning to hear rumors of uprisings in the districts --- and just starting to realize that they have been made the unwitting symbols of freedom to rebellious hordes. With yet another strike against them, it is no surprise that the Capitol has a terrible retaliation planned . . .but the reality of the government's vengeance will make readers' blood run cold.

As in THE HUNGER GAMES, Katniss is a sympathetic, credible, and fully dimensional hero. The plot is heady, thrilling, and dangerous. It twists and turns, culminating in a shocking finale (which leaves us yearning for the third book in the series). Readers will find themselves both rushing through this book, devouring every word as quickly as possible even as they wish they could stretch out the pleasure of reading it for as long as possible. Very highly recommended.
