This book is such an awesome one! I was really sad when I finished reading the one and I thought the Selection was over. But it wasn’t and the Heir is amazing. Just like in the selection book, this one was full of princes, princesses, queens, kings.
The heir isn’t about America Singer, but about her and Maxon’s daughter Eadlyn Schraeve. I actually really enjoyed reading from her point of view. Eadlyn is to-be queen, the first queen of Ilea ever and I loved how she thought about her being so powerful and her opinion of feminism and not needing a husband. I always hated those books where there is this girl who has to be saved by the cool badass boy who is perfect. I understand her wanting to be just ruling by herself.
In the selection books you are reading from America’s point of view, who participates in the selection and secretly doesn’t want to, Eadlyn secretly doesn’t want to marry anyone. I love seeing how similar they are based on personality. I actually hoped Eadlyn would be a redhead like Mer tho. A big difference between America and Eadlyn is the selfconfidence Eadlyn has, but America hasn’t. Eadlyn is such a cool character, but I miss reading from America’s point of view.
The new characters added were too cute. I love how strong the bond between Eadlyn and her twin brother Ahren is. Also the kids from miss Marlee and Woodwork are so funny, especially Josie is! I totally love her and KYLE KYLE KYLEEEE I LOVE KYLE WOODWORK SO SO SO MUCH. But guys, excuse me, I fell in love with like all the boys participating like oh my god, how cute are they askskaaskhweik. I love Erik, he is so adorable, sweet and caring and also goodlooking and I totally ship him with Eadlyn. Henri is also pretty awesome, but it isn’t practical he only speaks Swendish. Kyle and Eadlyn are also pretty cute together, although I don’t think they will end up together.
THE END. GUYS. THE. END. IS. NOT. ACCEPTABLE. THIS CLIFFHANGER IS SUCH A MASSIVE ONE AND I CAN’T HANDLE THIS. I CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER FOR ANSWERS. I JUST CAN’T. I NEED THE SEQUEL, LIKE RIGHT NOW. OMG OMG OMG. THIS WAS QUITE A PLOT TWIST TO ME. AND IT BROKE MY HEART INTO A MILLION PEACES.

I really adore the Selection series. Kiera Cass has created an amazing world in this series and I always want to read more! And The Heir has left me wanting just that, more!!

I think Eadlyn is a really strong character. She does have an attitude, for sure, but she has a kind and caring heart which makes her strong. I also think she takes after America in her decision making. I think her Selection is going well and the Selected boys have great variety.

I strongly suggest this book AND series, if you haven't read them all yet! (:

MY THOUGHTS
I admit, The Selection series is one of my guilty pleasures, so I was excited to read this spin-off. It wasn't as amazing as The Selection series, mostly because I can't ship anything yet, but this was a really great start to another series!

This book is set roughly twenty years after the events of The Selection. Eadlyn has been raised knowing that she will one day be Queen. A rise in rebellion and Eadlyn's life is change when her parents decide that the citizens need a distraction. The perfect distraction being another Selection. Eadlyn wants nothing to do with The Selection, but she has to put up with all of these boys with the idea that she might marry one of them. Romance is the furthest thing from her mind.

What I find very interesting about this book is I just loved getting to see the selection from the selector's point of view. It would've been interesting from a guy's perspective, but it may be even more interesting seeing things from a female perspective, when the Selection has never been female run.

Kiera Cass seems to write unlikeable female characters. America wasn't very popular and Eadlyn also has her flaws. I saw her as very spoiled and a bit of a brat. This is understandable, considering that she was raised as royalty and raised to be Queen, but it was a bit annoying. Though, based on how other characters saw her, it seems that Eadlyn is supposed to come off as a brat, so it doesn't bother me too much. I also strongly believe that she will change throughout the series, so I look forward to that.

As for romance, there wasn't really any. This book mainly introduces us to all the potential suitors, so there isn't yet a romance. There are a few people that I might try to ship, but I can't really have an actually ship quite yet. Though, I do like Henri! He's not really shippable, but he's probably one of my favorite characters!

Lastly, and this is why I am disappointed with this book, the ending sucked. The ending, while it will be important for the next books, felt like it was just placed there just to have a cliffhanger ending. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the book and it was completely upsetting.

IN CONCLUSION
Despite some of my misgivings, I did enjoy this book! I like many of the suitors and, mostly, I can't wait to start shipping! Eadlyn is a bit of a brat, but I expect her character to grow as the series goes on. The ending sucked and it really hurt my thoughts on this book. I might just recommend readers to wait to read this until the next book comes out, unless that one ends in an equally awful cliffhanger...

Set twenty years after the original Selection trilogy, The Heir is the story of King Maxon and Queen America’s daughter Eadlyn. The princess has grown up knowing the fairy tale of her parents’ relationship but she doesn’t see that for herself. She’s always had a plan for her rule and a Selection was never in the plans. Until it is.

The Selection series has been one that I found got better as it went along. The writing and the characters were noticeably different from the first book to the third, and now with this new addition and the twist of it being a female-led Selection process, there was so much to enjoy. It was still an easy read, like the others in the series, but Eadlyn was such a different character from either of her parents and I felt a better sense of who the guys were as characters earlier on than I had with the girls from The Selection.

I liked Eadlyn as a character. She could come off as spoiled, maybe a little bratty at times, but I could see her point in a lot of ways. If she was going to be forced to hold a Selection, she needed guys involved who would respect her and if they couldn’t handle her being harsh, no way would they handle being a prince. It was interesting to see her slowly come around to liking some of the guys instead of working against the whole process and learn more about what it was going to take of her to one day run the country.

It didn’t take long to get a few favourites for the guys. A lot were mostly jut background, like a bunch of the girls from The Selection, but the ones who stood out all stood out due to their personalities. Some were cute and funny, or shy but sweet, or overconfident and aggressive. There were a few tense moments between the princess and some of the guys.

The dynamic between Eadlyn and her family was great. It was obvious how much they all cared for each other but there was a difference between Eadlyn and her siblings. She would be queen one day and they were free to fall in love with whomever they wanted. She had training and stress and they had more freedom.

I also really liked seeing that there were still problems with the Castes going on even 20 years later. Dissolving them and trying to create an equal system was never going to happen overnight but getting everyone to believe in it could take generations. The pacing of this book also seemed faster than The Selection, which would make sense since I believe Eadlyn’s story is a duology so there’s one less book to tell the story. It wasn’t too fast of pacing, just faster.

Overall, I enjoyed the twist to the Selection process and the wait for the last book will be too long.

Well, I should start off by saying that I'm sure I wasn't the only person who had high hopes for this novel. I mean if you've read the other three and loved them the way I do. I was disappointed by this installment, Eadlyn is no America. This Princess starts out as a spoiled brat whom I wanted a smack every other page. She never thought of anyone else but herself. Her most important things in life were designing dresses and freaking hand massages. She was mean to everyone, even going so far as to feel ashamed for Kile's appearance and how it made her family look to be around that kind of thing.

I almost gave up on this book, I couldn't take much more of her, then enter Kile. I really like him and hope he or Erik wins, I won't be happy with any other. They are sweet and understanding and I love Kile for not being scared to call her out when she is being a bitch, which is a lot.

The plot is pretty much like the first part of the series, only Eadlyn is the first female to hold a selection and the way she goes about it you'd think her parents had demanded she go tap dancing in a mine field. She's rude to the boys and doesn't seem to care an ounce for them.

Slowly though, I watched her change little by little, I still wanted to smack her sometimes but it got better, she got better. I know some people are happy that she isn't as wishy washy as her mother was but I understood why America was that way and I sadly can understand why Eadlyn is such a spoiled brat... though I'm so angry at Maxon and America for raising her to be that way. Her twin brother, Ahren, seemed to be so much better till he eloped. Ugh, this book is a hot mess sometimes and just a plain mess other times, will I be reading the next one? Yes, but only for Kile or Erik, this though is nothing like the first and it makes me so sad.
