After a kitchen accident transforms Pizza and Kale into superheroes, they become best friends. While saving the world, Kid Kale notices that Super Pizza is the one everybody recognizes as helping, even though he is the one doing most of the work. Eventually, Kid Kale has enough and loses his temper with Super Pizza. After an epic food fight, Super Pizza and Kid Kale realize they weren't acting like superheroes at all. This book is full of teachable moments, and I liked the lesson that working together made them stronger at the end.

I love the originality of using two unlikely foods and teaming them up to be superheroes. This book is laugh-out-loud funny and filled with puns. I found a lot of the food puns funny, but my son had difficulty understanding some of them. The illustrations are so bright and colorful, and they perfectly capture the humor in the story. I especially love the two-page spread of the food fight.

Super Pizza and Kid Kale is a humorous picture book that is perfect for elementary school-aged children.
