Socks is the picture book adaption of the song by JD McPherson. The song is a fun holiday listen and the book contains a QR code on the inside cover to enjoy. In book format, the words don’t have the jazzy fun flair of the song, which helps make it all feel like good fun. I believe young readers will enjoy the book and likely agree with the sentiment about getting socks that are not as exciting as toys. As a parent, I’m not sure it is a sentiment I would want to promote in young kids not to be grateful for what they receive especially if a family is struggling, and providing them with new clothes (and socks) was fulfilling a need and not just a want. Since the target audience is kids, I think they will enjoy the humor of this book and want to read it multiple times. There is a small portion at the end where the whole family has fun wearing the same socks and a reminder about the greatest gift which is a sentiment I appreciated.
