Rory Miller had one chance to fight back and she took it. Rory survived … and the serial killer who attacked her escaped. Now that the infamous Steven Nell is on the loose, Rory must enter the witness protection with her father and sister, Darcy, leaving their friends and family without so much as a goodbye.

Starting over in a new town with only each other is unimaginable for Rory and Darcy. They were inseparable as children, but now they can barely stand each other. As the sisters settle in to Juniper Landing, a picturesque vacation island, it seems like their new home may be just the fresh start they need. They fall in with a group of beautiful, carefree teens and spend their days surfing, partying on the beach, and hiking into endless sunsets. But just as they’re starting to feel safe again, one of their new friends goes missing. Is it a coincidence? Or is the nightmare beginning all over again?

Shadowlands was a book about Rory Miller, a girl who is on the run with her family after a brush with death with no other than infamous serial killer, Steven Nell. However, while in the car to their safehouse, Rory has a terrible vision of her family and then her being killed by Nell. Was it just a dream or reality? While at Juniper Landing everything seems perfect. Parties on the beach with the most beautiful people on the island....however, things start to get weird. There is a fog that suddenly swirls the island, Rory starts to notice people going missing but then when she asks about them to her sister its as if they didnt even exist, and Rory begins to think that Steven Nell is following her again.. This book had me guessing from every angle and I didnt see the ending coming by a mile! It blew me away.

Oh man. I am so conflicted with this one. I don't know whether I loved it or hated it. So, this review will be a bit different.

First off, why I did not like the book: the ending. Normally, I am a huge fan of plot twists and surprise endings, but this time it did not work for me. I was infuriated when I read the last sentence. Majorly pissed off. Seriously. I felt like I read this whole thing for nothing because the ending did not make sense. I was left with a looooong list of questions. I don't even think I could re-read this and find answers to those questions. It was just too much.

Now, that being said, let's talk about why I might actually love this book. I heard a rumor that it was the beginning of a series. IF that is true, then we are in for some kind of awesome. IF this is book one of a new series, then I am certain the next book would answer those lingering questions in my mind. (At least I hope.) Not to mention how awesome this series might end up being.

I went into Shadowlands thinking it would be a murder mystery. What I ended up with was something completely different! I can't even tell you without ruining the entire storyline. Let's just say there is a lot of suspense that will having you turning the pages until the bitter end.
Good Points
IF this is the beginning of a new series, then it will be awesome. If not, I am annoyed I wasted my time reading this.
